Where to find Ethanol free gas in chicago
I have a DA 50 I would like to run on Ethanol Free gas in the suburbs of Chicago (north west) and wondering how I might find some ethanol free gas in the middle of corn country... Aviation gas is out, as the octane is to high.. looking for 87ish with no added corn.

anyone?

well I can not answer that question but I can suggest something,,

if you don't burn that much fuel you can use Colemen Camping Fuel and add a bit of Octane Booster to get the Octane up to 90%

Good luck finding it. I tried the same a few years back and gave up trying to find it. The alcohol blended gas will work fine. The only issue I have had with my da's is to replace the pump diaphram in the carb. It now gets done every spring when I redo the fuel tanks. I think the alcohol takes a toll on them. The rebuild kits are cheap.
If you find it, pass it along.

I knew it would be hard.
I checked some marinas.. all blended...
DA says not to use white gas or aviation gas.. so those are out.

I can use regular gas but I would pay more to get straight gas

Good luck there, Boss. Check with Dan C. and see if might know where to find it, but all of the blends in the Chicago area (as well as down here) use ethanol. BP has 11 different gasoline blend "regions" in the Chicago area ...ie, they blend 11 different 87 octane fuels for the Chicago area alone. The 87 octane you buy in the NW 'burbs is probably not the same blend as the 87 octane in Morris.

The only place I've been able to find non-ethanol gasoline is at home. My 10 year old Honda gets 42mpg on non-ethanol 87 octane.

Might want to try a Marina, when I had a boat I could get gas after I pulled it out of the water and fill up the truck at the same time. Alot of the time it is Ethanol free, gas with Ethanol is not that great for boats.

Two options
Any race tracks near you?

They normally will have 100 unleaded for the guys still running cat's. No additives.

Second you could buy VP98 at a motorcycle dealer for dirt bikes and quads etc...

Neither is cheap... Why the issue we are here with DA and everyone runs 87 pump with no issues, we are 10percent alky.

I have been told that the ethanol
will overtime screw up the carb diaphram... I will just keep an eye on it and replace as needed... I just thought if I could find a station with pure gas it would be better for the motor...

DA has awesome customer service and reasonable engine repair service.. so I guess I wont worry too much

My da-50's are 4 seasons old, hundreds and hundreds of flights. I do replace the diaphram every spring, but it is not so bad because the rebuild kit is only a few bucks from DA. Just be damn sure not to over tighten the screws that hold the carb on the motor.

...
If that is your only concern forget it. You will stuff it in the ground way before any issues with Alky. Also the price of the diaphram or for that matter the entire carb is no where near the effort of chasing down a particular gas over time.
