The fact that you are even comparing VBar to Axiom is amazing and Mike should be honored.

Given that there really is NO objective information on the Axiom and a 1 flight marketing video, it looks like the placebo effect is hard at work here.

Think of it this way, with the Vbar you are benefiting from 10 years of development and refinement from a leader in the industry. With the Axiom you get a price, a promise and a dream.

Either way, just go flybarless and enjoy the future, now.

So I went FBL "WITHOUT ANY" stab unit this weekend.

I read the post from heli-cuzz and decided to try it. I personally thought he was either joking or crazy but I had to try it. So this weekend I removed the linkage on a perfectly good flying Heli (Eco 8) I didn't want to trash my MPXLE. I was in the air in :20 minutes! Yes flying on the first flight. Interesting flight characteristics. Responsive and crisp.

I'm looking for every reason to buy a V-bar for my MPXLE but I just can't justify the expense. I wouldn't recommend this for everyone but it is possible. It made life interesting again....

Heli-Cuzz, I think you should market an empty little box and call it the Cuzz-O-matic naked flybarless system.

Very light
No wires
No software
Can be mounted anywhere, even in the trunk of your car.
Won't break in a crash
No vibration sensitivity
Helps with orientation in the dark.
It slices
It dices
Can be used as a little "barbie" when tailgating with friends.
Built-in bottle opener.
Great place to store your bind plug.
Lifetime warranty!

All for 29.99, free shipping.

I tried your way once, and only once.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I hope you're not offended. You have mad skills to to fly no bar, no box. Too stressful for me.

Ok well I talked to a few people who have been doing FBL for awhile and most have said to go v-bar 4.0 due to its easy to set up and there is a lot of help available.

I even PM'd Heli-cuzz. He almost has me convinced to go naked but since I wear a XXL (hint hint Mike Fortin ) no one wants to see that at a fun fly: And I can barely keep a bird in the air now

So somewhere between getting whats new and getting the right price point. I pulled the trigger and ordered my Axiom just a few min ago.
The big deciding factor was that the with programmer included I won't have to lug my laptop to the field. Also that Mike is very approachable and responded to all my questions promptly. Even when I told him it better be easy enough for my dumb @ss to program.

FBL K3D on the way!!!
I put the fun in dysFUNctional :)

Mike has been making some last minute changes after seeing what is coming out to be more competitive. He will be at the SRC FunFly this weekend demoing the new product.

I would wait to see what is coming out before making a decision. There are a lot of options coming out.

A company that has been around a while does not mean they will have the best product. They usually become to complacent, and the next thing you know a new small company actively takes the lead.

I also believe that Mikado are going to have to drop there price to remain competitive. Some of these new products are going to be at least as good and be cheaper. So by waiting just a little while you should be able to get a rock solid product at a good price.

Wow, this thread went downhill fast...

Lowest price + best performance + best quality + most features = Bankruptcy !!

I find it amazing when people don't understand that Mikado doesn't need do anything (EDIT - relative to price) other than to wait and see the new kids on the block come and go.

Gyrobot is really the only one with some potential staying power (talking 3 axis), but they have a long way to go (GUI and support) to catch up with Mikado, IMO. I had a GB before my 2 VBar's and I doubt I'd buy another one.

new kids on the block come and go
Not all new kids come and go. Once Align was a "new kid"

But I don't think anyone can argue that healthy competition can only be good for the end user.

Flybarless
I think Mikado is definitely the MOST well seated and PROVEN system out there hands down....anyone who has flown flybarless for a while would know that Vbar is the BENCHMARK....

I think there will be a LOT of new systems to try ...BUT ...the big question is would you trust your machine to a new system that is not well proven?...just to save a few bucks...

I personally have my favorite system and it's not vbar...but that's me and my own preference....

Then, you've got the CY/Spektrum Total G coming to market before the end of the year to complicate things even more. Anyone heard anything about the price of it?

True. But profits drive innovation and we want innovation too.

The Spektrum satellite only concept is a good example.

If someone offers you more for less are you really getting more? There's no magic formula.

The issue is that Mikado has been sealing these things starting out at $800 and no $475 and they make a lot of profit, Plus all of those $$ go to a non USA company.Skids Up

Flybarless - The future is now!!!
I dont agree with this at all.
If Mikado stays stagnant and doesn't adjust to compete with others as this technology matures it will be them that takes the dirt nap.

This technology isn't going anywhere and there are some people coming to this party that don't give up and aren't going anywhere..

TotalG is going to be a serious contender for the title.
And Curtis isnt a here today gone tomorrow type of guy..

neither are the other large gyro and electronics makers and if you don't think JR, Futaba, Spartan, and Prolly even Align aren't working on their own devices you are not seeing the big picture.

Flybarless is indeed the future of our hobby and its coming..

Mikado is in a good position to see what the others do because you are right they are the standard and the trendsetter.
But if they don't adjust to the market they will put themselves in a bad market position.
its simple economics.

CY's TotalG could really put some companies on the defense..
Not only a 3 axis FBL but also a ATG3 gov built in as well as Spektrum/JR Micro RX compatible.

Then we have the InertiaRC Axiom who is going for Small as well as much more competitive price than everyone else. and this unit does perform guys.. I've seen it myself and will be seeing the latest verson this weekend at SRC.
Do not underestimate this device its a strong system.

Then we have an unknown system sited last week on a heli also using the JR micro RXs as well falsely reported as an Align prototype by another heli site.

regardless though Mikado will have to innovate and even play with lower pricing in the future to stay where they are.
