I tell ya what. You go down there to Philly and fly your R/C Helicopter (UAV to the Feds, they don't know any different) during the TFR and let us know what that cop (FBI, Secret Service Agent) tells you and then we will all know for sure that:
the worst that can happen is you fly your heli, and a cop comes by to tell you to shut it down. and i dont even find that likely.
. I would rather just stay away and fly another day. The Feds don't care that you did not know anything about the NOTAM posting the TFR times and airspace restrictions. They look at it this way: if you fly (fixed wing, helicopters, UAVs, or R/Cs)you should know the FARs. Anything that flys except wildlife (birds) will be and should be grounded. If you're caught it will be more than a slap on the wrist. It only takes for one person to make a bad decision and there be repercussions on everyone who flies R/Cs.

martinic,
You can go to this website http://www.faa.gov and type in the search engine TFR, or go to the Regulations & Policies section. Also if the President is coming to the area your local news will surely broadcast it and then you get this I wonder moment (can I fly) and you can call your local airport or do as stated above. As for your comment
I had no idea that we needed to check them.
the FAA does not take ignorance on your part very well to let you slide and not be held accountable for your actions. Not trying to slam you or anything but the FAA is really really strict when it comes to their TFRs and the President of the USA's safety and well being.

whatever the NOTAR is, is it really that hard to not fly for one day for a few hours?

and if someone does fly and doesn't know about it, ignorance of the law doesn't mean it doesn't apply to you.

why take the risk? it's not a big deal until it happens to you. I'm sure that's how that woman felt who got nailed to the wall with fines for downloading 24 songs felt.

There have been a lot of high profile world leaders in the NYC metro area recently and I'm not suprised at the air space restrictions.

Just go do something else, geezz.

I think including model aircraft is a little overkill. What could someone do with a model airplane or Heli?

Maybe this FAA notice or regulation is a little outdated.

Nonetheless I will heed the warning.
IT's what I do.

I do appreciate the posting of this type of information. As I stated, I hadn't considered the applicability of NOTAMS to our small, low flying unmanned aircraft.

Seriously - what percentage of R/C pilots check NOTAMs or call their local aerodrome before heading out to fly? Fortunately, many of us check forums daily.

That said, we always land and/or get out of the way when small aircraft or other airborne folks (parachutists, etc.) Are on a path over our fields - but that's part of the Canadian national MAAC safety code.

Even though I am not even remotely affected by this particular notice, this is good info to know. Thanks for posting.

Obviously the average person wouldnt even know what a NOTAM is since it is after all, a NOTICE TO AIRMEN. I really think its more of a, "give the general public a warm and fuzzy feeling" when they read or hear about how their government is protecting them more than anything else. It would be something you might get slapped with after the fact but a TFR or NOTAM isn't going to stop anyone planning to try to do some harm.

A lot of the "show of force & law" is to impress the innocent.

It is true that a NOTAM won't stop the bad guy but it makes it easier to see the bad guy if there aren't a bunch of good guys out there too.

If you are at an AMA field, the AMA might be disappointed with you but I'd worry about the Secret Service agent that comes to visit if they find out you went flying during the TFR.
