Great vid, shows just how safety should always be the number one rule at funflys. Youre lucky the 700 pilot reacted calmly. You smack into my 700 while Im just hovering in front of my pilot station I would have smacked something into you.Team Westside Heli

are you saying he did not take care of it?
He should cover 100% of the crash cost cause its 100% his fault. Our club is helping out with some of the crash cost which im cool with and im putting some $$ in to help out too...
after he said this
I really didn't put this video on here for opinions as to how I should handle the situation.(I know how I would want things handled, if I were on the other end.) I put it up to show how easily something like this can happen. I have been flying R/C helis off and on for over 20 years. I have seen numerous mid air collisions and never imagined how quickly things happen. This was a real experience.

BTW: Logos are some durable helis! 90mph into a 700 and total damage $225, most of which was canopy and blades. That doesn't include my battery which is working, but slightly bent now.
in hind site it does sound like he danced around how he took care of the other guy....
I put the fun in dysFUNctional :)

I don't get the post ???
Anyone that has been flying for 20 years and has not gotten the idea of respecting a flyers box boundary ??
Anyone that makes a pass at a field or funfly 10 feet of the ground at full speed and does not realized the risk of colliding with other flyers . ???
Never imagine how quickly things can happen ????

I just don't get it .
Not only I think you should be responsible for the Trex 700 but you owe a lot of people a lot of apologies for your wreckless actions !

My buddy and I fly at a field near my place that we usually have all to ourselves. We have unfortunately become used to long sweeping passes just like that. This is fine in our case but we have come to the realization that if we are going to go to organized funfly's we are going to have to learn to 'fly in the box'. This is just what we are doing. To me the guys heli would have been paid for, and there would be profuse apologies on top for ruining his heli and his flying weekend (or two or three)

BTW, the animosity in here is a direct result of the subject title
Useless spotters = Mid Air disaster!
In my opinion it should read
Useless Pilot = Mid Air disaster!
If in a moment of insanity I did what the electric heli pilot did, the resolution would be to sit down with the 700 pilot, my laptop, and my credit card and start ordering replacement parts. Then try and work out a compensation for his time spent rebuilding.

My Logo 500 met its demise yesterday at the Whirlybirds Fun Fly and someone caught it all on video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfHS...re=channel_page

90+mph at impact with a Trex 700N.

It happened so fast that I couldn't even react.

Thanks to videographer and Sorry again to 700N pilot.

Enjoy
Wow, the only thing more amazing than this unfortunate accident is some of the responses.

The Trex 700 guy appeared to be just hovering at eye level directly in front of himself minding his own business when someone completely and intentionally invaded his airspace and demolishes his heli.

I understand accidents can and do happen, but blatant disregard for the person flying next to you and their airspace is totally unacceptable and unsafe.

I wouldn't want anyone like that flying next to me.

Spotters
As tradgic as this is, it is a cut and dry case more than many other midairs I've seen. Logo guy: Do the right thing!

FWIW, A spotters job is to be the eyes and ears of the pilot, not his brains.
If everyone stayed in their box, you wouldn't even need a spotter. There's times that everyone may want to venture out for a little FF. Not really a "pattern" with helis, but many people can't entertain themselves for 8 minutes in a 200' cell.

Scenerio: Pilot climbs out to the right, and wants to make a low pass to the left across the runway.

Pilot: "Low pass coming... How's the runway look to the left?"

Spotter: "There's a guy hovering center field next to us about 10 feet up."

Pilot: "Shucks. Think I'll be ok on the outside edge?"

Spotter: "Yes, all clear there."

Pilot: "Here I come!"

The guy doing the speed run is a grade A Peckerhead if he did anything less than pay for the loss of the other machine. A speed run down the flightline at a FF? That is just plain stupid.

Furyous, You can't possibly expect us not to comment this way on the video you posted. It shows a blatant disregard for the 700 pilots airspace. A mid-air at altitude is one thing, but at 10 feet and right in front of his station? You did hear the comment by someone about hogging the field, didn't you?

Come on man, redeem yourself and post that you did the right thing and stepped up and payed for the damage you caused. It's the right thing to do.

BTW, Poor choice of wording for the subject of this post.

Just my 2 cents.
Just another crappy day in Paradise....Aloha!
