Useless spotters = Mid Air disaster!
My Logo 500 met its demise yesterday at the Whirlybirds Fun Fly and someone caught it all on video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfHS...re=channel_page

90+mph at impact with a Trex 700N.

It happened so fast that I couldn't even react.

Thanks to videographer and Sorry again to 700N pilot.

Enjoy

Awesome crash. so how did the 700 pilot react off camera? I bet he was not too happy. Fire your spotter.(I'm assuming he did not alert you to the obstructed traffic ahead)Chris

Ouch!!

Isn't it remarkable that both pilots perceive the exact same centerline on the runway and altitude?! Big, wide runway and comparatively small helis. The sky was otherwise empty. The odds against it happening must be very high.

I'm very sorry for your losses. It's so tragic when this happens.

Difficult situation for all concerned but if I was the 700N pilot, I know I'd be looking for some recompense.

Actually, the priority of the spotter is to keep the pilots safe from other aircraft. Not so much the models themselves. I've been involved in a midair myself and it just happens too fast. Although flying straight through the middle of the other guys box didn't help the odds.

Looks like you flew right into the 700s airspace from the vid. What he say to you? I would have been like "Pay up sucka!"

Looks to me like the logo, envaded someones elses airspace. So Yeah you owe him a new Trex 700N. Just Bill it to your spotter.

This is why I'd never, ever go to a club, or flying feild with other pilots.

That was nothing short of spectacular!!!

Was definitely bad on your part, since you tagged the guy directly in front of his pilot station

I wonder how many flight stations you need to fly in? If I was the 700 pilot you'd be covering the cost of this rebuild. Now all that aside it was exciting to see a full clip, t-bone midair.

At our field they even have a rule against [EDITED] low height fast fly-by's. Nicely illustrates why you need such a rule

Im pretty sure you cant blame the spoter
looks as if the flight stations are tightly packed in there what 30' wide ? we only send one heli up at a time unless theres room for it but def ur fault high speed fly by urs adn the next flight stationwas very dangerous, what would have happened if u lost ur alerion servo and that bird would have veered off couse those little hockey nets would have done nothing to protect them i think very poor judgement on your part i hope u offered to pay for his heli or atleast a set of blades

Actually, no one owes ANYONE ANYTHING.

Once our toys are in the air, ALL BETS ARE OFF.

If you can't accept that your model may not come down in one piece, you shouldn't be flying. If you can't afford to lose your model, or can't afford to replace it, you shouldn't be flying. It is your responsibility, and your decision to participate in this hobby, and no one else's. It is also your decision to fly at an event or a club where there are other aircraft flying in the same airspace.

This is similar to an incident where a foamie jet and turbine jet collided at an event. Do you think a guy flying a foamy jet should have a $10,000+ liability by flying a $400 foamie? Certainly not.

Frankly, the fact that some are saying this guy needs to "pay up" is nothing short of scary, and even thinking in this way threatens the very hobby most of us enjoy.

Let's keep the litigation OUT of our hobby.

It depends on the setup. If they had flight boxes and you show reckless disregard for them then it is your fault. You don't have carte blanche to be a jackass in that scenario. I don't know the scenario here.

Brad that's bullcrap.. sorry
Someone else totals my model due to being stupid or negligent they are going to pay up.. period. You come to a AMA field or a funfly and do something stupid bring your checkbook because you will pay for the other persons model.

this is why only 1 heli is allowed in the air at one time at our field.

I think that just because your bird is in the air does not allow you to fly into other flight stations. A little respect for your fellow pilots is always a good thing. Clearly the logo is at fault here and Mr. 700 should be compensated in some fashion. If you can't respect other people's airspace don't fly in clubs or at events. Simple.

I think he owes the 700 Pilot a new bird. Hot doggin' 10 feet from the flight station is always a big NO NO. The feild has plenty of room in the back for that kind of flying. I bet even during the pilots meeting all that was spelled out. And as far as takeing responsiability, why do you think they insist that you are a AMA menmber to fly ? When I fly I will always take responsiabilty for what I do, be it to other birds or property. And hey the 700n was just hovering 10 feet IN FRONT OF HIMSELF.Fly it like it's your buddys bird
