There's no bec in a castle cc85hv.
I had several of them die for various reasons.
I thought my governor was okay after much tweaking of the governor settings, until I traded out the cc85hv for a kontronic jazz. Wow, what a difference !

I consider the money I've spent on kontronik esc's as some of the most well spent money I've ever parted with in regards to heli stuff. The mikado v-bar electronics would be on that list too.
Some of the pricey stuff like that is hard to shell out the bucks for initially, but every other heli you fly afterwards without a good governor, or say the v-bar, feels pretty incomplete, and quite inferior.

I just ordered a Castle ICE 100 for my Logo 500 SE project. I've always had Castle ESC's and very good luck with them. I have a HV85 but wanted something smaller and lightweight in comparison plus the built-in switching BEC looked good.

I am running a Logo 400 V-Bar with a Scorpion HK-3026-1600kv motor on an 18 tooth pinion and a Castle Creations HV85 ESC and have nothing but success with it. Kyle Dahl even put it through its paces and not one problem. Came back cool every time (under 115 degrees in 95 degree ambient) and the gov in it is awesome!!! It is the easiest system to set up. Just type in your gear ratios, cell count, and desired head speed and it hits it every time with out fail. I love the Castle Creations HV85 ESC and I highly recommend it to any one looking for a good ESC.

All of this is just my own opinion though of course...

A HV85 is pretty huge on a Logo 400. If I build one I would use a ICE 75 or ICE Lite 75.

If you don't know what your missing out on then it won't matter.

I like the fact that the jive has awesome internal BEC, that alone is worth a lot, it keeps things simple.

I did use thunder tiger ESC, the governor worked very well, easier than the jive to program. Only thing is in a crash the thing would go into meltdown and smoke as the only protection was thermal.

Thats my Ice 100 mounted on a Logo 400 Vbar.
It perfoms as well as my Jazz 80 on the Protos.

cool! jazz and jive are overkill for the 400 anyways.

be warned, the jazz BEC is worthless for helicopters, only the jive BEC works through the whole voltage range of the ESC.

A used jazz 55 (or 80) is about 150.00...solder an Ultimate BEC on the power side and clip the red wire on the throttle lead....there isn't a ligher ESC for up to 10s or simpler to program than the jazz 55

1 beep, 4 beeps...(and 7 beeps if you feel like reversing the motor the lazy way)...thats it!

if only 1.4 hp is enough

the jazz 55 can take 70a spikes in its stock form.

6s (22.2v) x55A = 1221 watts.....so about a 1000 watts to the sky.

a 6s 25c 2200 lipo, if it really is 25c, will be exactly 55A at 25C...that would be harder on the pack than the esc.

this is a very used 55 so its kinda ratty looking, but its a picture of how they can be modded.

the heat shrink was removed to help cooling, theres a phenolic board held against the bottom of the esc by the heatshrink so I used tape to hold that in place and protect the electrical connections.

the heat sink allows for much more than 70a spikes. I use this in a logo 14, its overkill for a 400.

the UBEC is wired on the power side and you can see the red wire is clipped at the plug end of the throttle lead. this is enough power for a 400s electronics but so so for a 500 or 600. For those I would use a Western Electronics 6v 10A version.

needless to say, this probably voids the warranty.

KC,

No need to short the red esc/rx wire on a Jazz 55-10-32 (10s max)esc. It does not have a built-in esc anyway. Maybe yous is a Jazz 55-6-18 (6s max) esc?

Jazz 55-10-32 escs are pretty cheap right now. Tower Hobbies is clearing them out for $199, less their $30-40 usual discount. Pretty good value imho, I bought one!

Cheers,

I am using a separate BEC and receiver pack with the ICE 100 on my Stretched Logo 10. I will probably try the ESC's BEC though. So far I haven't heard anyone having problems with it.
