The quality of the RCFunFun gears equals the Hirobo delrin gears in every respect (machining and materials wise) . I was able to get a hold of 2 sets before the Yen exchange went through the roof. Nice upgrade indeed, but the straight gears are not that much louder if you use the appropriate grease. Plus they are easier to get a hold of.

Exactly right.

The key to getting the OEM Hirobo gears to run quietly is to set the mesh as tightly as possible without binding when the driveline is at running temp and of course the suggested modest amount of grease on the gears. If the gears get worn and/or sloppy, they'll sing like a bird in hover.

Just a quick question wrt a Freya VPUS to the guys that have done more maths than me.....

I am busy converting a WC3 to e-power.

Using a 97t main, and 10t pinion.

I have purchased a Scorpion HK-4525-520kv motor

I am planning on using 12s with a Jeti Spin 99.

Would the KV value of the motor be ok? or did I purchase a motor with a too high KV value?

Greetings

Hi,
Your English is a lot better than some American's, and you have an excuse .
It's not the opinion of my teacher !!!

For the kv and gear demultplication, I use this calcul :

In first step :
your kv : 520
Your setup : 12s

3,7 (nominal cell lipo) * 12 = 44,4 V
You need to subtract 0,1% (rendment)
(44,4*520)*0,9 = aprox 20500 motor rpm full throttle

In second step, your demultiplication
Motor gear : 10 t
Main Gear : 97 t

So (20500*10)/97 = 2113
( the ratio is the first gear on the second)

2113Rpm is your rotor rotation at full esc power.
With 90% throttle of your ESC you will turn at approx 1900 Rpm.

Depending of your type of flight, but for F schedule, I think it's not enough.
I think you need to change your motor gear and not the motor.
With a 11 tooth Motor gear at 90%, you will turn at approx 2100.

As Dr ben said , it's not recommended to use 10 tooth, it's to small, I've already destroyed 2 main gear with fluored grease and I will follow his advice to use 11 or 12 motor gear.

For the next Season, I will try 12 Tooth with 450 KV Scorpion or kontro on my Vpus.

If this can help you ...

Thomas

Raptor Ken,

Check out this thread:

https://rc.runryder.com/t624301p1/

photos from "luixitoyo"

Is a plastic Freya using the Scorpion Mount, very simple mod to the frames.

Then all you need is an adaptor like this:

(the short adaptor in the left)

so you can use the stock Freya pinions supported on top, or find Hirobo E pinions that mesh with the stock Freya gears.

Not sure if Hirobo makes/sells those YET

Last two digits are pinion tooth count.

MRC would be happy to order them for you. Call up there and ask for Donald Boyce. He's a nice guy, very accomodating.

NB: The Hirobo pinions were designed around the E-E3 mechanics which has adjustable gear mesh. Thus I would not necessarily assume that they will mesh correctly with the Freya's fixed gear spacing. They are likely not of uniform diameter.

Thanks TOTO, what I was worried about is that the KV value of my motor might be too high.

Moneypit...

If you look at my "Freya X-Spec in Steriods" thread I've posted photos of the E-3 pinion that I picked up. Great piece of item to have for E-power conversion.

Here's the pictures:

Ben is correct. You can call Don at MRC and special order it through him. He's a great guy and very helpful.

Thanks Ed.

Maybe use a little less muscle on the screws holding that t/r servo in. That one piece grommet is crushed to the point that the servo might as well be hard mounted.

Hi Toto,

I think you mean 10% instead of 0,1%, do you? My experience is to calc with 15% loss. The truth, as always, lies somewhere in between :-)

I drive my eagle III with kontronik 700-45 (450kv) and 12S with a 11 tooth pinion gear and 97 tooth main gear. For hovering I need 24% esc (futaba) for 1500rpm and 57% (futaba) for 2000rpm. The governor do its work really good. So I think using a 12 tooth pinion gear is not a good idea :-)
