Hey guys........I have been out of the hobby for about 4years now and I woudl like to get back in. I flew mostly Raptor 50's before, but things have changed a lot since them and I am trying to figure out what to do. I'm not sure if I want to go back to nitro or try electric. I was looking at a Blade 400, but I wonder if I will be happ with it. Any advice you guys have would be greatly appreciated!

If you were used to flying nitro machines, then a small electric might be fun, and just what you need to get back into it.

Hell... I can fix that.
Uh oh..

I started with the B400 and it served its purpose. I would recomend something a little better if you have flow before. Personally I am a Trex fan but there are a lot of helis out there that are as good or even better depending what you are doing with it.

Things I like about the 400
1. All inclusive kit
2. Really good radio. I flew my Trex 600 with it until I got a DX7
3. Easy to get parts for.

Things I did not like about the 400.
1. Feathering shaft would bend if you looked at it really hard.
2. Battery and Charger that came with it was a total waste IMHO.
3. Electronics are flyable but wont last long in a learning environment. (it flys pretty good with stock electronics but everytime you crash it some electronic part will fail)

Just thought I would share my experience with it.

I have 2 Blades and a 600N; my advise to you is that since you have some experience, go ahead and get your self another 50 size Nitro! and you wont regret, if you get a 450 size you eventually go bigger. My 450's are decorations now since I got a 50N!

I dont suffer from mental iIlness, I actually enjoy mine!

If you still have your raptor 50, fly it until it is unrepairable. It won't inhibit you getting your game back fast. Then get at least a 50 nitro or 600 electric. I really don't think you would be happy with anything smaller.

You had a Raptor 50, if you still have it fly it. If you're interested in electric, get a Trex 450 pro, great flying machine and it stay's together!!!! Don't know much about the Blade 400. Can't go wrong with a Trex 600 nitro another good flying machine. I've heard the Hirobo SDX 50 is pretty good too. The Raptor 50 Titan SE, well it's a Raptor(you either love them or hate them). There are alot of good flying machines out, pick your poison!

Damn that ground is hard! When's the right time to get out of this money sucking hobby?

I just started flying Heli's this spring. Started flying Planes in spring of '08. I have flown the 400 size machines and would recommend going back with a used TREX or Raptor 50 Size Nitro. Since you have experience I would recommend that you get something that you will not outgrow right away. Thunder Tiger does have an E550 size that flies awesome. I just think that you will get right back on the bike and be out 500 to 700 dollars for something that sits on the shelf. Just my $.02 though.

Even if you do get a nitro machine or one of the larger electrics, also do consider a 450-size heli. They are really fun, plus their small size/portability/silent flight make them the perfect "to go" helis, that you can take with you just about anywhere: play during work lunch hour, vacations, boring weddings , etc.

If your adventurious and hate nitro goop all over everything get a trex 450 ,their new flavor of the month whatever that is at the moment and then get 90 sized Gasser heli that stays nice and clean and is cheap to operate if you don't crash often.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

Nice! I have a 450 and a gasser but it's the old 1005 Miniature Aircraft with a Jewel generator setup. \\ I love gassers and the long run times that costs pennies per flight on fuel.
I have a Raptor 50 too but never fly it anymore.
My Spectra is on order and should be here in a few days.
How you like your Spectra? What motor you use??

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

Fly the Raptor!!:
It's funny,,I like my Raptor 50 alot. I have flown her alot over the years. I even have a over a case of 30% nitro fuel for it but when I'm going out to fly I seem to just grab the gasser,,TX and gas can and go. When I think of the low flight times of the nitro , the mess, and the starter ,glo driver ,paper towel and windex never mind the 3 buck a flight costs ,I just seem to leave her at home.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

+1 for the Raptor

If you flew Raptors before, just jump right back with a new R50SE. Going backwards in size is going backwards. Yea, the 450 flies great for a 450, but it does not fly like a 50. If anyone tells you that ask to buy there 50 from them.

My Raptor still see a lot of flight time. I have align paddles on it and they are quick. It is a good solid heli, very easy to set up and work on.

Old Guys Rule!
