Hello Runryders!

I got a question if anyone has any experience with engine warranty with OS.
I got this engine in march brand new, it was running extremely great, all the sudden last weekend it lost compression.
Friend of mine took a look at it, it has scratches on the cylinder head on the piston and at the crank case, i never took one of tese apart, however I've worked a lot on motorcycle engines the the only time I saw a scratch on the crank case on a bike engine, when the bearing extremely bad on the crankshaft...
My question is based on your experience is this engine likely to be fixed under the warranty?
Or should I start saving up for a new engine?

OS has been rejecting every warranty claim I personally know that has been sent in over the past year. It use to be that OS would take care of engines within the warranty period, but they have started turning away perfectly legitimate claims of late.

Good luck.

Thank you for the inputs,I will call them on monday and we'll see what they say. I would think it's a bearing failure, but if they reject it, that was the las time I had OS engine...I mean this thing is onl 5 months old! I do have the receipt and everything so wish me luck!

Here is my prediction:

You call Hobby Services.
They say, "sure send it in with receipt".
You spend money on shipping and insurance.
They receive the engine and drag their feet to service it.
You call two weeks later to check up on it.
They say give them another week.
They call you and say the engine is shot but they won't fix it.
You stand your ground and insist it is under warranty.
They will say you ran it lean.
You will say it ran great and lost compression for no reason.
They will offer to give you 50% off of suggested retail, which is like $599.
You say no thanks, I'll buy YS.
They will say we can ship your engine back after you pay a $20 inspection/service fee PLUS shipping.
You decide if you will let them keep it or choke up the money so you can order the parts to fix it yourself.

I can't wait to see how accurate I am!!

I got mine covered recently. It was "iffy" whether they would or not. There was no real smoking gun, so they covered it. They said something to the effect of "we can't really find any defect that would have caused this, but we're covering it this time.

Send it in, plead your case well, and good luck.

I'm hoping they will service it...i'm broke no money for new engine so I give it a try. I did not touch the needles since march, it was running 200-209 at all times, no problems at all.
Than all the sudden as i was coming down with an auto, it shut off during landing.
I've thought its unusual it never happened before, however I've fueled it back up and I just could not start it, only started if I put my throttle trim way up high, which was on the same place at all times since march when it was originally setup...So I didn't fly it, called my buddy who's an expert heli tech and works in the hobby shop, he took a look at it today and told me the bad news
Good thing that I kept the box and the receipt just in case a least I have a chance to claim the warranty.

They will tell you the bearing failed due to corrosion wich convientely isn't covered, pieces of the bearing caused the scratches on the sleeve/piston. They will say it is because you didn't use after run oil. Ask me how I know this...

I had an engine I sent in under warranty. I said it seemed to not have power any more. They rebuilt it under warranty and even said there was some rust on the rear bearing. Maybe they have changed now, but I did get good service on the engine.

Man, I miss the eighties.

So couple of days passed by, I gave them a call this morning, and a lady just told me that they replaced the engine since it was a factory defect ( the piston sleeve was coming out she said) and she gave me a tracking number for the new engine.
This means after being grounded for 2 weekends I can go and fly again!
So Tyler, you can't imagine how happy I am to prove you wrong!

All hail OS Customer Service!

You are lucky that you got the service. But, getting a warranty service for a legitimate claims shouldn't be like winning a lottery.

I agree red_z06, Tyler, it shouldn't be like winning the lottery,
and it is really upsetting if someone makes a legitimate claim and gets turned down, I would have cried if it happens with me...

Thank God I can go fly on the weekend again!

Anyway, thanks to everyone for all the info and keeping me company during hard times! (it was the longest 2 weeks ever without flying)
