3.92 MBPS Down.
0.43 MBPS Up.

DSL Through Phone Line.

They just plowed fiber optic to my house today.
Left the wires hanging at the meter.
Maybe they will hook it up tomarrow.

I'm sure I'll gain some speed. Or at least more consistant performance.

Why is it, in this day and age, that internet providers (hughesnet for example) are allowed to use the words 'high speed' and 1.5mb in the same sentence? And then they act like they're very proud of that.

There, their and they're. It's really that simple.

Ray, you may find this helpful. It's from Wikipedia.

Basically, they can call it high-speed because it's faster than dial-up. Obviously, like you point out, "high speed" isn't always what you and I would call high-speed. The FCC recognizes this as a problem and are stepping in to provide guidelines as to exactly what ISP's are allowed to call High Speed.

Although various minimum bandwidths have been used in definitions of broadband, ranging up from 64 kbit/s up to 4.0 Mbit/s, the 2006 OECD report is typical by defining broadband as having download data transfer rates equal to or faster than 256 kbit/s, while the United States (US) Federal Communications Commission (FCC) as of 2010, defines "Basic Broadband" as data transmission speeds of at least 4 megabits per second (Mbps), or 4,000,000 bits per second, downstream (from the Internet to the user’s computer) and 1 Mbit/s upstream (from the user’s computer to the Internet). The trend is to raise the threshold of the broadband definition as the marketplace rolls out faster services.

The FCC are recognised by men in tin hats but not necessarily by the world federation.

This is during off shift hours. I'll check tomorrow during peak. I can almost bet that it will be slower than syrup. Surfing the net during the day at work is painful.

Fast enough. 3-4MB Down stream, and (0.41 Up, little shy of half a MB) both are plenty for surfing the net, streaming videos, ect. Lot better than what we had in the dial up days.

The first set of numbers is your download speed, yours is about 310,kb per second which is good. The second set of numbers is your upload speed, how fast you can upload say a picture, or video to youtube. With 0.41up that will take a couple hours to upload say a 200mb video to youtube, But with 3-MB down you could download say a 700 mb file in 20-30 minutes.
