The 50 Hyper is very fuel ungry compared whit the TT 53 redline (my os 50 lasts only 8-9 minutes and my TT.53 12-13 in a same heli setup), People say the os 55 will last only 5 or 6 minutes whit a regular 50 fuel tank...... If thats a fact I`ll stick whit my TT .53

Honey..... It was a special sale

I use a carbsmart on my Hyper 50 and runtimes went up from 8 minutes to 11 minutes plus.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly far better than I can pilot them

At our field you will get laughed at for closing throttle trim to kill an engine. clipping the fuel line and burning the fuel out of the motor strongly improves the bearing life. I just replaced my first "bad" bearing. I could'nt tell you how many cases that thing had through it.

Also I think engine tuning is a big problem with the bearing issue. A improperly tuned engine causes more vibration due to engine unbalance resulting in excessive bearing fatigue.
I guess everyone at your field would be laughing at Matt Botos, who flys at our field regularly. I know he's had not a single bearing prob out of his 50 in the N% which he has well over 200 VERY aggressive flights on.

On the 2 gallon motor with the bearing pics. . . it's pretty obvious it's two gallons were in a very dirty environment. that oil is full of dirt/grit. Doesn't take long to grind an engine to bits @ 18,000+ RPM

I spoke to the OS/Futaba guys at IRCHA yesterday. They say the 55 will be the same price as the hyper and is expected to be delivered the end of September. I'm not holding my breath on this, but this is what they told me. BTW, the OS pipe looks very nice!

There are charging over a hundred dollar more for a 55 over the 50? What in the 55 is worth hundred dollars more? Is it the third needle valve? It’s probably just and old 61 carburetor with a new number.

Believe it or not, the corrosion you see is a result of simply leaving raw fuel in an engine. What looks like dirt and what not... is an accumulation of rust.

The heli that motor was in was crashed and then shelved for about a month, maybe more. After a new rear bearing and a ring, the motor was tip top.

Corrosion inhibitors... hah!

I got some high res shots of the motor at IRCHA that I'd like to share.

Here is the album where you can see them in full resolution.

They said it is the same carb body from the 90, it is just jetted differently for the 50.
