Hi MrMel, as you are the motor "guru" i am wondering what you think is the best motor in terms of effieciency/power/maintenace.

I like the scorpion for the power 500KV but don't like changing bearings, the Xera tempts me cause its effiecient, the pyro i have not yet tried (money is not part of the equation) but it also temps me as kontronik say its maintenance free?

Stick with the scorp, i got 450-500 flights on mine with stock bearings, boca's failed within 50.
Quality on the bigger motorbearings is good!

Xera runs almost same temp when you press it to deliver power in the range of the scorpion

Ah thats good news then, cause i had bocas from new and was not impressed now back to the stock ones and oiling.

How about the kontronik? Where does that fit in?

I sold mine. Runs cool but not very powerful, just like tangos. Optimal motor for sport/easy 3d though

Getting a motor to pull watts is easy, to make it keep headspeed is the trick

You gotta run insane HS or/and insane pitch, or severly overgeared, 4000watt on a 550 heli is too much (not very efficent, i.e. that much isnt needed to keep it from bogging normally).

What's the flighttime on it?

Mr. Mel, i thinking about building a logo 700.
I would grab the vbar/reciever from another heli in my fleet.
Aside from those two items, what would the rest cost me excluding batteries. I'd like to go 12S and use a pheonix hv controller, probably an 85.

Here's what i was thinking
logo 600 kit
stretch parts
scorpion 4035-??
12S Hobby city battery (whats the nicest capacity here weight vs. flight time, i fly aerobatics and moderate 3D)
Castle HV 85
separate bec lipo with cc bec or similar
tail servo???
cyclic servos??? I'd like good servos but i don't think i need jr 8717's or anything. I'd like a nice balance of cost and performance.

skip the CC BEC, use a Western Robotics Super-Mini or simular.
as for controller, if you'r going with CC, go with a 110.

Hobby City 2 x 6s1p 5000 Flightmax or simular will work nice, I flew those in mine, you will need to make an extension plate in the bottom to secure the packs though.

I switched my 8717 for Futaba BLS servo's, alot less center slop.

as for tailservo, I suggest you go with a good one, at least if you are going to fly 3D, you simply get good performance out of them, BLS251 or simular.
