The Difference Well, I did it. I got cocky & took the FP out for a little excersize.
I'm not nearly as comfortable with the FP, and have retired it from out front flying, there just isn't room (and nope, I didn't crash it).I discovered the biggest difference between Frankenheli with a balance bar, and the FP with a full flybar. With the balance bar, when you let go of the controls, everything goes back to 0, and it stops. With the FP, if you let go of the controls, it keeps going what ever direction it was going in last.To stop Frank, I just let the sticks center. With the FP, I have to give opposite stick to counter what ever it was doing last.Frank is teaching me lots with getting very comfortable with the orientations, and such, but also teaching me a lot of lazy flying bad habits.Don't care though, because Frank is a ton of fun to fly, and I enjoy the stuffin's out of it. And that's what this is supposed to be about. ![]() |

It's a coax that I took the top rotor off, and put the balance bar on the remaining rotor (with larger blades, and some appropriate mods, and extra bits & pieces). For a single rotor heli, it has the coax stability, but better maneuverability. It's an odd little heli. I'm sure that when I finally get comfortable flying my 450 Frank will be to boring to bother with. But for the moment, I'm enjoying it.If you're looking for something like it, the closest you can get off th eshelf is the Nine Eagles Kestrel 500 SX, or the Free Spirit. I'm using some of the head mechanics from those on Frank. Mine differs in that I use a 5g brushless tail motor, and full separates, with a head lock gyro. The Nine Eagles don't. Mine is also based on the Blade CX2 chasis, where Nine Eagles developed their own.Believe me, I almost break out in a sweat if Frank gets to close to anything. Much of it was hand made, or modified, so parts are a definite problem.Edit: I just tried these links, and they don't work... tiny url has been hacked.. What a shame that people have so little to do, and so little respect that they feel the need to do things like that. Here's the free spirit. -=> Link Deleted <=-The 500SX-=> Link Deleted <=-Frank looks more like the Free Spirit, except it (currently) is using the forward canopy from a Blade CX2. (gotta get time to paint the new canopy some day!). |
