the local hobby shop had gotten some in, so the owner gave me a set to try. the struts and skids all together are about half the weight of the align setup. the heli sits about a half inch lower and they are about a half inch wider. the only thing is the clamps wear out very quickly if you take off from concrete so you will need some rubber stoppers, other than that they are great AND they look great with the MP6

Yep because silly YS STILL have a system that screws into the crankcase instead of THROUGH it. I hate YS's since when you have a header like Hatori, they are a b1tch to install vs. on an OS.
seems like the most popular 90 size engine out now is the YS91 SR and we gonna have to wait.
LOL, whatever. I bet OS/Align sell 10X the number of engines that YS do - AT LEAST....CY is just catering to the masses, plus he flies OS.

no, but i have torn one down to its very last component for modeling

i took notes on the changes they made between the HZ and SZ. and it is a very nicely built engine inside and out. based on the changes im sure it puts out more power then the SZ.

but i will still keep my YS thanks. i'm perfectly happy with it. to this day i have never seen or heard an OS running as smooth as a YS. i get comments about how smooth mine runs every time i go to the field. even new guys that show up can tell the difference.

Have you heard or seen a broken in HZ for comparison? I am not talking about Power. Taking Power out of the equation, the HZ blows the older SZ away in every single way - especially in terms of vibes.

Not trying to start an OS/YS war here but just trying to dispel some myths that seem to persist even though the HZ is NOTHING like previous OS91's (which were all complete crap without mods) IMHO....

not yet, but i would like to. im interested in seeing what all the changes have done to the engine. there are actually quiet a few.

early on in the model i was thinking of posting the differences incase someone wanted to upgrade an SZ to an HZ, but the only part that seemed to have been left alone was the connecting rod and wrist pin.

Comparison between the SZ and HZ

the piston is lighter, with the holes for the wrist pin moved.

piston has holes drilled into the top for the piston ring back pressure

the carb is completely different

piston sleeve for the most part is the same, but the chamfers are much larger for increase fuel/air flow into the chamber

since the piston is lighter, the counter weights on the crank are also change to account for the weight, also making the crank lighter.

the chamfers on the crank shaft have also been increased for better fuel/air flow.

the head is completely different of course. but according to the comparison between the SZ and HZ heads, they are both approximately the same weight, but the SZ has ~30% more surface area. but with the HZ being anodized black, some of the reduced surface area may be recovered for thermal purposes. its hard to tell which one would be better for dissipating heat. the HZ is actually very similar in design to the YS 91 head, but a little larger, closer to the Viper Head in size.

the crank case overall remains the same with the exception of a modified carb mount with extra material removed along the internal sides for optimal air and fuel flow.

What all of that translates into is the most powerful, smoothest running, easiest to tune OS91 ever made. Plus the Align version is CHEAP.

so, what your saying, is that after all these years, and different engine variants, OS has finally caught up with what YS has always had?

how many versions did OS come out with until they finally made one run smooth?

what was the first? i believe it was the C-Spec, then the SZ, and now the HZ? and does it even run as smooth as a YS? can you go an entire summer without having to re-tune the needles?

the fact that the OS has a little more power is old news, but i think the average joe pilot would unlikely be able to tell the difference.

i always see the OS guys tinkering with their engines, while the YS guys fire up and go.

we actually have a very good pilot at the field who does awesome 3D. flew YS for years, but made the switch to OS just to get that little bit more power. he never could get it to run right. all it did was beat his 90 to death. it resulted in him giving up and selling it.

sorry, but like i said, i will keep my YS.

If i see an HZ that runs anywhere near as well as my YS, then i may consider it. but until then, i'm perfectly happy

Were these HZ's? If not there is no relevance since the others are old engines which I have agreed are already crap.

YS engines have their weak points too but I will not belabor the point here, this is not the thread for it.

In any case, good on CY for coming to the party with a new Pipe!!

Fly what you enjoy.
