YS SR Swallowed a Wrist Pin Keeper
Anyone ever had a wrist pin snap ring break and get swallowed by the piston? Happened to me tonight. 2nd time this has happened to me in 10 years of flying helis. Engine has about 20 some gallons through it, was running excellent, then it lost all power. Was able to get the heli on the ground luckly.

I wonder if I should send it to YS? I need a head, piston, ring, sleeve, wrist pin keepers, head gasket. Probably $200 in parts I wonder if YS would cut me a deal to fix it?

You fly RC helicopters? Can I have a ride?

Hi

Looks bad. A lot of damage for a wrist pin retainer clip.... guess it is pretty hard steel.

How old? The SR hasn't been out that long - might it still be in warranty?

Ouch. I'd definately explore the warranty path if that applies but either way, you should call yspartsandservice.com and see what they say. I had them do a major repair on a crashed 91SR and was pretty pleased with the outcome and cost.

You (or they) might be able to clean and smooth that head and re-use it if it is not cracked. It won't be new but could make the difference between repairing it or tossing the whole thing. You might also want to consider doing the repair yourself but clean it well (twice).

Just curious - Had the engine ever been dismantled since it was new, prior to this mishap?

Holy $hit dude! You mangled that really good.

...is time for OS yet.....OS...OS....OS

I'd go the warranty route first, as mentioned above if possible. There's a lot of damage there and it's going to be costly.

It may pay you to check with YS if they renewed the clips when they repaired your engine. Most repairers don't bother.

If the old clips went back in after the repair, that could explain the failure.
