Did you Know Chip Hyde can fly Helis
My club hosted the Lonestar Shootout Pattern contest. this past weekend. And Chip Hyde was there. After the event was over I took out my Heli and goofed around a bit. After the 1st filght I was walking back to get more fuel. and saw Chip setting with some of the guys and Joked, do you want to play it. He said no at first. So I refueled and was about to take out for some more pratice and Chip came up said let he give it try. I did, knowing that I realy did not have much to loose. being my old Rappy 50 v2. He took the transmitter and put my Rappy through it paces. And he made it so look easy. He did almost dork it at the end of his flight. When he said, that was enough he went for a last auto and let the headspeed get to low. Knock off a linkage on the blades on the rough landing. But no damage to the Heli.

The first photo is me putting the linkage back on.

Chip won class III at the NATS one year in heli. He is a very accomplished pilot. At the time, he had already been a world champion in F3A pattern and in pylon. Looked like he just wanted to make the F3C world team too. Don't know why he didn't stick to it longer. Must have been the terribly boring practice routines you need to do to match up with Curtis, Wayne and Dwight.Team Synergy/Rail, Team Scorpion, YS Engines, VelTye

Chip Hyde is pretty down to earth. He flies up here for the big IMAC contests and is always friendly and talking with anyone that wants or needs help. His real job is flying UAV's. But he has designed some pretty sweet pattern ships and aircraft accesories.Semper Fidelis

I have a good friend of mine that is an excellent pattern pilot. He has won several regionals and placed in the top 5 at some pretty large competitions. He doesn't primarily fly helis, but man he is so much better than me and he has only been into rc for 4 years total!!! He hovered a heli nose in the first time ever on the sticks because he said it was easier to him. Then proceded to fly around backwards without a problem.

Some guys just see things differently than most...or at least differently than I do. These guys are just naturals with things that fly....no matter if rotary of fixed. I hate those guys....

He told me the story about that. It a funny story. The first attempt was not good. He said one guy did not let go of the wing at the sametime as the other guy and the spun around the dude and when he did let go the plane went down a hallway. That he even lost site of it.
Is it the weekend yet?
