hey guy's...

So I ran into an interesting problem the other day...I had a small crash with my trex 450, Stripped main gear, broken tail blade, broke the rotor block and the one that hurt the most were my Saab main blades they both broke, and I stripped out my first servo HS65.... So a quick trip to my LHS Tim's Hobby in Everett Wa. as I've done now for the last couple of years to retrieve the necessary parts and or goodies for one of my Ten heli's. After coming home with my bag of trex bones, I replaced the broken one's I had on my heli and noticed right away on spool up Houston we have a problem!! I had a real bad shake at low speed then as it would idle up through it, it would then turn into a real bad vibration ..I mean skid turning tail blurring kinda stuff. So I tore the head apart again put in a brand new main shaft just to rule it out rebuilt the head put it on and same thing on spool up and on idle 1.So I tore the head apart again then just started with the main shaft, spool up the motor and its fine hmmm next I put on the rotor hub and blade grips spooled up the wobble again!... so I started looking closer now and after a few minutes I realize the rotor block is molded with a bend in it..I took it off and you can hold the base in your fingers and look through the feathering shaft hole and see the top of the block has a few degrees of bend in it to one side! Its a cheap part $7 So I chalk it up to just a fluke part and off I go to my LHS again explained what was going on purchase another rotor block for another $7 now $14 and some change, I return home open the package put it all together and would you believe it ....the same friggin thing!! So I took my other Trex head off my other heli put it on and its fine. So I return to my LHS and showed him the problem and he agreed! I asked for a credit of $10 towards a metal rotor block he could have the two bad ones to return to his supplier Horizon and I would spend another $20 towards the metal one and I was denied...He said ( We cant loose that money) and that I would have to call Horizon hobby as they were the distributor they got the parts from, I called and I was told to call another hobby shop in Calif. And the guy there was pissed off that Horizon keeps telling people to call him for there warranty stuff...So I call Horizon back and now the guy on the other end of the line is just plain pissy and says (we don't warranty Align parts we sell you have to call your LHS)...I was pissed now so I called my LHS Tim's hobby in Everett WA and told them what was going on and they still said its a warranty thing with Horizon and I would have to deal with them....at this point its the princable I believe, If they sell me defective parts and are not willing to warranty their product and stand behind it I told him I will no longer shop here .....all he said was ..........sorry..

Am I being anal?

I think they should warranty the parts if they are the distributer. Although the hobby shop should take them back and return them to the distributer for you and give you a replacement. That is if they are a good shop. BTW if you are using a plastic rotor block you can replace it with an aluminum one from a Wing Heli. They are like $12 and are a direct replacement. I use them on my T-rex 450SE and se V2 heads. They work great. Here's a link http://www.ka-planes.com/inc/sdetail/21002 There are a lot of other parts that are interchangeable too http://www.ka-planes.com/wing_model_450_se_heli This would be a cheap way to upgrade a plastic headed T-rex. Also they are anodized black which I think looks cool. Just thought I'd share that since you mentioned spending $7 for a plastic one.

Assurance RC is not the only distributor of Align products in the USA.

There are several others, so it may depend on who your hobby shop is buying their inventory from.

It's hard to warranty anything in this hobby because there is no way to know what the end users are doing once they get the products.

I know many stores and distributors try their best but it's not easy.

well being that I left the hobby shop one day with a defective part then to return the next day to buy another and return to the hobby shop within the hour with the part on the heli then he agrees with me the part is defective and then to not compensate me is ridiculous

If you want great customer service from your Align stuff with great warranties, etc, then you need look no further than Heli Wholesaler. Get your LHS to order stuff from HW and you will have no problems with warranty or even customer support for that matter.

Main shaft is the same. You can use the wing ones. The wing feathering shaft is the wrong length (longer, I think)so you can't use that with your T-rex. (You might be able to make it work if you experimented with some washers/spacers but I don't think it's worth the trouble for these.) You need an Align T-rex v1 feathering shaft (Align V2 is a larger Diameter)

The problem is that Align is not compensating their distributors on the defective parts. They haven't been doing it for a while now and the distributors must have finally had enough.

Is your LHS a HobbyTown franchise? I know they order their Align stuff from Horizon. If so good luck. The two that went out of business here in our area had ZERO customer service. They would just laugh if you asked them to return a defective part. Perhaps that is why they are gone?

I was Spektrum when Spektrum wasn't cool

I know firsthand that Distributors get SCREWED on some defective Align parts. The problem is that Align (corporate) is supporting their Distributors less and less. This is the first nail in their coffin IMHO. Without Distributor support, you have no Dealer support either - the last link in the chain is - the customer. When the customer starts losing out you're done.

Yes Align have a steady flow of new products and therefore a steady flow of new income for Distributors and Dealers (this is where TT went wrong) BUT their Dealers are the ones making the sales for them. Without the Dealers there is no Align. Plus all these new products cost a LOT in new capital to stock and support. I know of some Dealers who are pulling back from Align due to lack of support. They are either taking on new brands (along side Align so that they have a Plan B) or looking to do so.

Align need to tread VERY CAREFULLY or they will become a has been regardless of how good or cheap their products are. They have some tough new competition nipping at their heels and one only has to look at TT to see how quickly one can lose marketshare in this industry. TT are a cautionary tale in the Heli business. Align would do well to heed their example.

We DO Warranty Align
For us, those parts would have been warrantied and if a metal replacement was desired, an arrangement would have been made.

As an Align Taiwan distributor, we do support our dealers/customers 100% in warranty issues like this one. In any case, there is always a way to remedy any problem. But as to be expected we can only warranty those items that can be traced back through us. But, also as mentioned above, "arrangements" can always be made.

I don't want this to sound like a "plug" or advertisement for HeliWholesaler, but since we do offer dealer/customer support for Align happily, I feel the need to throw a "positive" post in here and not let us be "grouped".

Anyway, sorry to hear about your aggravation. Completely understandable. I just went through a customer service issue with Home Depot and Toro.

Our dealers include the top retailers in the country so chances are any parts bought through them would be warrantied by us accordingly. If not sure, just ask your dealer if they buy from us.

If you still need help with that part, feel free to contact me. We will come up with something to help.

The LHS should have replaced those parts for you.
I think it's total BS that they didn't.

I'll tell you right now that the LHS here would of refunded the money or gave you credit.

Support you local hobby shop, go back, talk nice and give the guy a chance.

Or Not....
