Last evening I put the first four flights on my new 500. I have been out of the heli hobby for about a year and a half and just getting back into it. In the past I flew mainly Stratus's and 450 size electrics. It only took one flight to get the 500 set up the way I like it!! It felt very stable and there was plenty of power. I think that I found a heli that is the best all around machine for my tast!! I am going out again today to pound on it a little harder. I will try to get some pics up later on this evening.
I am definatly pleased with this heli and I will be getting another as soon as I can for a back up bird!! Please let me know what you all thik of this machine. Thanks Align for proving once again why you are a top contender in the hobby!!

Kevin

I really enjoyed mine, very stable, very low maintenence. The only drawback in my opinion was that it wasn't fast enough on the cyclics. Of course this is after flying my Outrage 550. All in all though it's a great heli.

I used 6S 3000 Outrage, most use a 5S or 6S on the 500.

Just came home from a great day at a local fun fly. I flew the 500 and I am still very pleased with it. One quick note. Watch your gear mesh between your pinion and main drive gear. I ended up stripping my main gear while comeing down fast and trying to pull out hard and ended up putting it in. Only bad part after it hit was the main gear.
I had my wife try to take a few pics but she found it hard to get good shots. I think she did very well for her first time. Hope you enjoy them. I know I loved flying it today. Im shore I will be doing more of it tommarow.

blackhawk509, FWIW,
I tried quite a few different tolerances with the Align pinion on my Scorpion 3026-XXXX and never could get it the way I wanted (too tight, noisey, etc., ... ), I went with a Hard-One pinion and I'm really pleased with the results.
Outrage 6S 3000mAh or 3300mAh packs here (ivanp)
blackhawk, I have your "back-up" 500 ready and waiting (LMK);

Ive had 4 flights with my new 500 so far, the first 1 I was so nervous I was shakeing just in a hover, by the 3rd I was tossing it around like it was on the sim, absolutely brilliant little heli.

Whats strange is when I spooled up my 600e after flying the 500e, for the first few seconds I thought there was something wrong with my motor or maybe I forgot to charge the pack, because the sound is so much different.

After 4 minutes 3d, the 6s 2500 is not even down to 23 volts, put back in aprox 1100, so I think 2500 mah is good size, no need for 3000.

How on earth do you manage 4 minutes of 3d and only put 1100 back in ?? Best I can do is 1800-1900 put back in after 4 mins... usually around 2000.

I've just finished my Trex 500, solved a rare problem with the torque rotor gear, but I must admitt that this bird is really nice and feels "big" and stable compared with its size. I've flown TRex 450 (super blinged - personal edition) but I find it quite "nervous"; I fly regularly my Stratus 90 and I can say that this Trex 500 is really close to the sensation of stability given by the big one.

I just want to post some pictures of my new TRex 500; this is the ESP edition, but I made some important upgrades like the ciclic servo (JR 3517 metal gear) - the Align ones that come with the kit are - in my humble opinion - about piece of "trash". The gyro is the Spartan DS760 coupled with the ultra high speed servo JR 3500.
Also I worked on the wiring side shortening all the cables for the best length (no more mess with curled cables! Look at the gyro cable for instance).
I decided to install the 425mm Mavrikk G5 Pro blades: they come perfectly balanced and are great for autos and increased stability.
Finally I changed the nuts on the tail rotor blades: with this ones pictured the force needed to move the pitch is enormously reduced.

sumonzu,

Nice bird... I would pin boom just to prevent sliding it off (same way as you did tail push rod holder).

PS: may be that was the reason of your front torque gear failure.

Thank you VladZ for the suggestion: actually this is what I did for the Stratus tail boom, but the TRex 500 tail was so tight I did not feel it was necessary, but I will do it. Thank you again!

Hey sumonzu , I see that you've got the metal plate on your Spartan for you 500. For Eletric helicopter's I would just use some good Foam tape.
With My Furion the tail holds better without the metal plate. With the Metal Plate the Gyro Can wiggle. With a Nitro It's a whole nother story with all the engine vibes.

Rare was that the TT front gear stripped apparently without reason after just 6 min of flight (but I'm pretty sure it was just question of bad parts, or - may be - because of some grass hitting the tail blades when the heli was still in the ground??).

Its only the 4rth flight ive had with the heli still early days, my had my timer set to 4 minutes, so probly less actual time(3.30-3.45), when I say 3d its at my level 3d so maybe about 5 tic tocs in a row followed by stationary flips with a bit of FFF, I cant do all that crazy piro stuff.
