(notice this is past crash) I noticed the tension on my belt was way loose and had to put in some right rudder to keep oreintation going right. I noticed some wag in the tail and dumbed down the gain on the gryo but wondering if having a loose belt will paly against the gyro, or that I should crank up the gain when the belt is tight to stop the drift?

Not really, you probably have something else going on.

I have an old Tiger 50 used for training, and I can tell if the belt loosens as the tail begins to wag slightly. Tighten it up and its back to normal. Maybe it vibrates more loose and runs the gyro nuts but it does wag when loose.
