i bought my titan 2nd hand it has the futaba GY401 gyro with the hitec hsg-5084mg digital tail servo. the gyro says that if its used with a digital tail servo you should set the delay to '0' but the previous owners have it set at '50' i think(the pot doesnt have an arrow to point at the value so could be 50 or 100!). i have been flying about and its fine i just keep thinking that ishould change this to '0' as per instructions. any ideas what i would gain by setting it to '0' rather than the setting its at?

If you do a "pedal" turn at a hover, then let go of the tail stick, and the helicopter "wobbles" back and forth before it stops and locks in, the servo is too slow to catch the heading. The gyro commands the servo to reverse to stop rotation, it takes too long, the gyro commands more, then the servo ends up over-shooting the heading and it repeats to the opposite direction with smaller and smaller oscillations. If you increase the delay on the 401, it compensates for the fact that the servo will move slower than the gyro can command it.

If, on the other hand, you do the same thing and it stops immediately without oscillating, you should be about right. The instructions for the gyro, as brief as they are, describe how to set the delay. If it works, I wouldn't move it, but then again, screwing with settings is how we learn!

I'm from Bangor, Maine.

I know what you mean about wantig to set it at 0 as per the instructions. Give it a try, the worst thing that can happen is you have to fiddle with it a bit to get it working smooth if it makes it worse. Well, the WORST thing is you can't control it, but I highly doubt that.

I burned up a digital servo by having the gain and delay turned up.

I could see if the gain was up, but don't really understand how the delay would cause the servo to burn up.

I figuted it was one or the other or a combo of the two since the instructions said they should be set at zero and I had them both at 12' o clock.
The little micro servo last about 3 minutes and froze solid.

my gyro doesnt mention the gain just the delay. i think i will set the delay to 0 and see what happens. i recon the last couple of owners must have been flying it at 50 as well. would love to know what it actually does to the servo as this is the 1st gyro that i have used that has has this function(i normally use csm)
