I think it would be awesome if Runryder users could also pink posts on occasion or maybe magenta them. You would need to have a certain number of votes on how worthless a specific post is and maybe a threshold that would cause the post to go into pink or magenta status.

Anyone else like this idea?

Mark, if so please consider this a feature request.

This is a blog. You are suggesting a committee type mechanism that is constantly changing members. That would never be fair unless it was moderated by one or two persons.

there are plenty of forums in existence that self-moderate already. he's not proposing something new (except for the color). and, it's a really good system.

check out slashdot's self-moderation. registered members are given a bank of points over a certain period with which to rate posts between -5 and +5. The rating also carries an adjective such as 'Funny', 'Informative', 'Insightful', 'Troll', etc.

i like it because the forum is threaded whereby each member/user can select the level to which they want displayed by default. e.g. collapse posts moderated -1 or lower. then, when you open a thread you see ONLY the best rated responses to a topic + new or unrated responses. all the b.s. responses are collapsed--but viewable if you really want to see them for context.

a system like this only works with a high readership. but, i think RR may be close to critical mass. could be worth a try.

if it ain't broke, break it.

I like the gadget blogs and such I read that either "disemvowel" posts with enough negative votes, by removing all vowels, or fade the comments out making the font ligheter and lighter, as the post gets more negative votes.

I like that idea. Although, if it were in effect, you wouldn't be able to read this reply...

Well, it's readable until people vote it negatively enough. Then it gets disemvoweled. So if someone's post is obtuse, obnoxious, or needlessly antagonistic, people can vote it disemvoweled. It doesn't remove the post, but it makes it easily skippable, since but you have to put some effort into understanding the text.

why?!
i think that everyone on here should just use the web site for exactly what it was intended for....helicopters and the love of the hobby. not a site for drama queens and crybabies. i think there should be an age limit and personality test to register with this site. it seems that over the last few years...things have gotten really immature on here. is this site just full of children now?

Slashdot style moderation is a great idea IMHO. I hope Mark implements something similar...he could base the moderation points awarded to each member based on the member standings/tiers already in place, i.e. heliman/rrProfessor etc.

I know Mark has been loath to allow co-moderation since the beginning of RR but now would be a great time to implement something like this IMHO. It would also greatly reduce his workload IMO.

operator, I think you should be pinked. You just registered and all your post are complaints about RR members, unless you want to enlighten us on your original screename.
