What is the benefit of the slot in the new main shaft? I am building a new 700 kit and have 3 original main shafts. I can get a hold of a new one but is it really necessary?

I want to build it the best and if the new main shaft has benefits I would rather use that.

That is what I've heard but I am wondering how much it is actually necessary because people have been flying them this long without that notch and they seem ok. I am wondering if that is part of the reason for stressed/cracked flybar cages though... If the flybar is hitting the main shaft it would stress the flybar cage.

I believe you have it backwords. The orriginal main shafts had a slot in the top for flybar. The new main shaft -1 does'nt have the slot in it. Makes no difference.

Ok thanks guys. I was wondering because I just got a new kit and a package of main shafts that say -1 with no slot but the pic threw me off.

I just put a new 700N together and it was a recent kit, no slot in the main shaft but I noticed that the illustration in the instructions showed one.

What is the benefit of a mast with no slot ?
Was the change due to a safety issue or a performance increase?
