For a Hirobo Freya 90, is a Futaba GY401, GY 520, or GY 611 better and why?

i prefer the jr770 8900 combo to any listed although i have not had a chance to fly the 520 yet but would stay away from the 401 only cause the newer version will b out soon enough and the 611 weight 2 much with the external amp

520 is smaller
611 is fine and works great
Either would be an excellent choice with a BLS251 servo.

New kid on the block is the Inertia 860. I have one, put it in a Trex 500, replacing a 401. Seems to be a killer gyro with a killer price. I was skeptical at first, but not anymore.

The GY520 out performs all the previous Futaba gyros. Other good choices are the CY Mini-G, Solid-G, and Spartan DS760.

Either the G520 or the Spartan. Spartan had lower their price on some online stores.

Spartan++

I've tried the 520, I sold them and went back to the Spartan because I like to be able to upgrade my gyro and I like the ability to tweak the config. That being said, the 520 is a great gyro.

From what you've listed I would go with the GY520, but personally I would go with a Spartan and then a Mini G in that order.....Good luck with your decision...there are so many great gyros out there, it's almost hard to go wrong, but you're doing your homework and that's great!!!

Thanks for the input guys, think i will check with the gy 520. The BLS251 servo says it is only for the 611 though. The S9254 is the servo I am looking at.

The BLS251 can be used with the 520. Says so in the manual on page 9. http://manuals.hobbico.com/fut/futm0810-manual.pdf

The BLS251, 9251, and 9256 are short pulse servos, they center at 760us instead of 1520us

You just have to have the correct settings in the gyro before plugging up the servo.
The 601, 611, 520, Spartan, SolidG, MiniG, Vbar, and CSM 720 all support short pulse servos and any of those servos will work with any of those gyros.

The 2 best I have tried are the Futaba 520 and Inertia 860. Performance wise they are about the same, but the Inertia is less money, and is better to program. I've now sold all my other gyros and have 3 Inertias. Great gyros.

Which Gyro is best?
That would be a matter of opinion.

I tell most people that if they have to ask....

A GY 401 will do just fine.

The question is what gyro is the best for your needs. Are you a sport flier, 3D, or just learning to hover?

From your profile, non-existent and the fact that you are comparing low end gyros to high end gyros, I take it you are a beginner.

Although a 401 will do just fine as a first gyro, I wouldn't recommend it on a 90. But then, I wouldn't recommend starting off with a 90 sized machine.

Spartan, GY520, GY611, and Solid G are all good high end gyros.

Jr makes a couple of gyros, but thats not there "ball of wax". The old ones are all drift puppies and the new one, the 770, is more fun to set up than a lego set. And although they are not suppose to drift, it is my understanding that some of them actually do not drift.

The GY401 is a great little gyro for a 50 sized machine. It will not provide a constant piro rate, but..... Do you need it?

Old Guys Rule!
