Hi

Just wondered if anyone (regardless of type) has ever cycled their lipos over the 200 mark?

Mine are now coming up for 100 cycles but they're starting to fade. I'm not too sure if I'll get to the 200 mark....

Fenderstrat has some he has run over 500 cycles and other over 300. I personally have never made it past 80 as it is just too hot where I live and they just don't last as long.

I have run several packs just over 200 cycles and one pair just over 300 before performance dropped noticeably.

How the heck are you getting that kinda cycle life without a noticeable drop in performance? I wish I could say that. My 10s Outrage lipos are definately not holding up so well. And I take what I believe to be very good care of them. My setup pulls some big amps and I know that shortens cycle life. But still, 200?

I think 100 cycles is the more realistic figure.

That sounds about right. I have sure never heard of anyone ever getting 500 cycles from a lipo. But I've got big hopes.

New chemistry of 2009 seems promising (Hyperion G3, TP40C etc), as tests on RCGroups show INCREASE in performance on cycle #99 vs first few cycles.

Best I had to date was EVO20 "old formula", got 280 cycles on those before I retired them to a sportflying friend, who got another 50-100 cycles out of them.

I make sure they get plenty of air cooling when the canopy is on. Flying with canopy verses without canopy made a big difference in how hot the batteries were getting. On my little 450 I replaced the plastic windscreen with a mesh (window screening).

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

I've found the same as MrMel, the best cells I've had to date are the old formula Flightpower Evo20 5s1p3700 packs. Most of these packs (I had 8 of them) reached the 200 cycle mark before puffing, and/or were replaced by Evo25 packs under warranty from FlightPower (great guys).

I've still got 2 of these packs (+3 years old) with 270 cycles on them and they still balance/charge faster, and outperform my Evo25 5s1p3700 packs. The capacity of these older packs is down to ~3200 mahr so I now time them for around 25-2600 mahr usage. When their capacity falls below 3000 I'll retire them to plank use (they will probably puff before then anyway).

I have 8x Evo25 5s1p3700 packs (1.5-2 years old) that currently have 150-170 cycles on them and they look like most of them will also make the 200 cycle mark. The power output of these cells dropped a few percent after the first 60-70 cycles but seem to have stayed pretty constant since. None of these packs has shown any minor swelling or puffing.

I also have 8x Outrage 25C 5s1p3700 packs (0.5-1 year old) that now have 70-100 cycles on them. All these packs perform very well (maybe just a little better than my old Evo20's, but not by much). My only concern is that after ~70 cycles most of them started to show a little swelling (far from puffing though) and take a little longer to charge/balance. To date this does not seem to have affected their performance though.

I still have 2x TP Prolite 10-12C 5s3p6000 packs (+3 years old). I used to use them as 10s on my Ion-x but they now see light duty on my 5s Logo 10-3D hack. These packs have ~100 cycles on them and are starting to get a bit puffy!

Please keep in mind that I do not fly hard 3D and I 'baby' all my packs. I balance/charge at 1C (0.5C for my old Prolites) and, target 75-80% usage. I also target my gearing/headspeed so that I only pull max amps = 1xC rating and ~1/2xC continuous rating overall.

Man I can hardly wait for the day when I can target the actual C rating for average flying, not have to time flights (just land when the power drops a bit), recharge immediately at 5-10C, and still expect +500 cycles. Of course I still want equal or better power-to-weight ratio as well. One day, hopefully sooner than we think!

Cheers,
TomC

Performance Plus uses Desire cells - same as Outrage.

yes I have had FMA revolution batteries that have lasted hundreds of cycles.one, a 2100mah 18C 3s battery was usable for over 500 cycles, sure it lost some pop,but fine for circuits.I have 2 right now over the 300 cycle mark, and a 4th at about 275.yes they have lost punch but can most definately be used for hovering/testing/set up.

I have been a PPRC rep for less than a year so I do not have the cycles on my PPRC batts that I do on my FMA's.but 2 of my PPRC batts are comming up on 200 cycles with almost no noticable loss of power

are you ready for the kicker? except for the first 3-5 break in cycles when the batteries are new, every one of these batteries has been charged at at least 2C,and some charges are 2.5 or 3c
