The heli event that drew most participation by both pilots and spectators had some form of carnage.

Fastest time through Limbo (less chance of crash)

Obstacle course (harder to finish)

Derby with a fly through gate

draws most crowd at events I've been to.

But, you must make it worthwhle for the pilots to risk their helis while having fun. Most cringe on crashes but they all secretly want to see others crash. This gives them a sure shot at seeing one.

450 class carnage should have at least $100-200 prize to offset and risk their helis to draw participation.

50 class will most likely require $500+ to the winner to draw participation.

Lots of things you can do for a funfly.
Take tennis balls and cut them in half and put a piece of coat hanger out the top with a hook to catch with a skid and then have to move it to a predetermined spot then as someone else said autp compititions hover contest ballon pop limbo drag races the list is endless.

good suggestions guys, keep them coming.

i don't know what kinds of events the club members will like or not like. however, i think it's safe to say that we're not going to award money for best crash to entice people to fly aggressively. although there is a plaque for best crash.

the events that they did hold last year were a pad hopping event, drag race, and 60 second hover.

i went out to the field today and tried tipping over a water bottle with the skids and it was surprisingly difficult. if there was a time limit of like 5 minutes, i'd be hard pressed to get 1 or 2. i thought my hovering skills were better than that. i'm sure with some practice it would be easier.

i also tried picking up some things, cardboard box open on one end, empty fuel jug, but the rotorwash blew them away, so that's not going to work. i like the idea of the tennis balls though, they wouldn't blow away.
