Hi guys

I'm still on the lookout for a good HD camcorder and am currently looking at the Canon 500D .... but I'm somewhat put off by not having control of shutter speed, aperture or ISO .... is this something I would need to use often for video work? Or will fully-automatic be good enough?

Many thanks

David

Auto kinda sucks, here's why.

Shooting with auto iris is ugly and amateur. Nothing more distracting than watching a camera's auto iris bump around between light and dark conditions.

Shutter speed is nice to have control over. You typically want to shoot between 1/60 and 1/100 to avoid a strobing, jerky look. With no control over shutter speed, you risk having a high shutter on bright days unless you use an ND filter.

Hi Derek, thanks for your reply

Yeah I had imagined there would be problems like that ... I notice Canon have just released a firmware upgrade for the 5DII that allows for manual control over shutter speed, aperture and ISO - I wonder what the chances are of the same thing happening to the 500D?

Such a shame as the 500D would have suited my bill perfectly otherwise ....

Cheers,

David

If the 500D is anything like the 5D, you'll be able to lock the exposure with some trickery.
