Thanks Doug. Probably I ask wrong and my phrasing is not good. I will try again, if you do not mind.

What I ask is just
- rotate head with blades by hand
- count how many turns head does

Not tail blades rotation - it is countable. I am just interesting in head count turns after rotation by hand.

For example, imagine there is no belt at all, so tail does not rotate, so no tension. If to rotate CW head by hand, it will rotate pretty long time - friction will be mainly from one way bearing, which is not big.

If there is a belt, then rotation count will be way smaller. I am interesting how many rotations are made with proper belt setup if to rotate head by hand one time.

Oh, looks like my English is not enough...

Thanks anyway.

Thanks a lot, Doug! Mine the same 1 - 1.5 times. So my belt tension is OK.
Maybe a little bit more than yours, because you use 12T tail pulley. I have 9T and 39T - best combination for me - excellent tail authority.

Using Zippy 1500, 2800 governored HS, battery comes home warm and I put less than 80% back with 5.30 min flight time with multiple flips and punches. Governor works till the very end, not maxing throttle.

I consider my tail (well, HBK's one) is done now with the mode I described above. BladeCP helped HBK! So I have combination of HBK2, HBK3, BladeCP, Blade400, Xtreme and a bit of Trex 250/450. Took a while to find good for me combination.

Thanks again!

The HBK2 has been starting to make an odd noise lately. This is different than raspy noise I noticed after the motor was replaced. This is more of a whurr-whurr. It make a similar sound shortly before the Xtreme belt let go. Today at the field the sound was a little worse and the developed a new vibration in the tail.

So tonight I replaced the belt. The belt came out in fairly good condition. No missing teeth, no cracks. I didn't log when I put it in, but based on other actively logged around the same timeframe, I'm estimating it had about 250 flights on it.

Here's the interesting part. The teeth on the pulley were heavily worn. There were some teeth left, but they roughly half the size of the teeth on the new pulley.

With the new belt and pulley, the vibrations and the odd sounds were gone, and the tail is holding much better.

The same story. You are more cautious than I am. My belt just recently developed the same sound as you described and it broke in flight. If you can try to look at old belt. Does it have rounded teeth in comparison with a new one?

Actually the belt appears to be in good shape. The teeth are not that much different than the new one. But the pulley was in bad shape. However, its been on the heli for a long time. I think I installed it before I was logging flights. Which would make it over 750 flights old.

Here I tried to fly Rave to load tail and to get some raspy sound from tail. Greg, is it the same sound you heard on my flying HBK?

If yes, than maybe it is OK, because Rave tail does not slip.

I changed tail pulley on HBK to 10T Xtreme. Looks like sound is better now, although I got some whistling sound additionally. Hard to say where it comes from.

I started to be paranoid about tails - I fly and keep listening for tail now. Argggh!

Watch at YouTube

PS. Rave is kind of hard to control for me - too much sensitive setup.

yes, that is the raspy sound I'm getting as well. It seems like its only when the tail is working hard. Hovering sideways into the wind or sideways flight will usually cause it to happen.

Great flying! Your backwards flight and piroetting circuits are looking very good.

Thanks Greg. So this raspy sound is not from the slipping tail's belt, because it is TT on Rave. So I would consider, it is OK on HBK. We'll see how tail works in current setup.

I can't understand it, I think its the ONLY part I haven't broke on the King. Make sure there isn't a sharp burr inside the boom that may be causing it. Try spraying some silicone down the boom as well.

Thanks Doug for advise. Yes, I think you are right. Somewhere in the tail I have something sharp which cuts the belt eventually. I just cannot find it.

I did the following: new boom (old seems Ok, but just in case (funny enough, when I bought bag of used parts a number of times, everybody added as a bonus boom, so I have a number of them)), idlers as per Greg's recommendations (stacked bearings), Xtreme tail pulley, stock 39T front pulley, reassembled everything. Tried to shift tail assembly as far down the tail as possible to avoid belt rubbing over the boom. Still there is rubbing, but less. How to explain - well, boom has internal D 7 mm. Tail assembly has internal 8mm. So belt goes first into tail assembly, then into the boom. In other words tail assembly does not embrace boom entirely, but by only 3/4 of it, like stock plastic assembly. I know, not much. I have MH tail assembly. Silicon is sprayed.

Maybe it will help. We'll see how it goes. King now is on it's last leg. No more main gears and no more belts in my stock parts.

Btw, I got a word from Xtreme (I shoot mail to Xtreme, due to advise from Gregg), that they will release 10mm tail boom adapter for carbon frame within this month. No more details.

Did not last long for me. Belt broke in the air. King is grounded. Motor mount from CF frame is gone. Looks like it is the only part - did not check both shafts.

There are three possible things:
- either HBK does not like to be inverted and shows me this.
- either I mount something terrifically wrong.

Some break with HBK for now.

Sorry to hear that KV. I have taken King breaks as well but somehow find my way back to it sooner or later

What I ask is just
- rotate head with blades by hand
- count how many turns head does
so if it dos not turn 1&1/2 the belt is to tight or thats works for diferents helis.
