Anyone know if the gears are plastic or metal? Sounds like metal gears inside.
Gear on motor is metal and the larger gear is plastic.

I only have a half gallon through my starter so far, but I am very happy with it. I was using a 14.4 drill, so anything is a step up from that. I like that I can just put this thing in a cargo pocket on my shorts if I want. I had a tired Air Thunder 1800mah batt that I put in it. I had to strip the shrinkwrap, and loosen the bolts so I could spread the case a little bit to get it in. I could have pushed it in, but I wasn't comfortable with using force. Works great so far. I have an Outrage 2200 that I will use when it is time to retire it from 450 use.

There is a guy on HF who is having problems with it on a 90, says it hammers or "rachets" bad. I wonder if there is something else going on.

Thanks bigballajeff for the heads up...

I tried it on my Trex 600, 700 and work very good. I use it as well to start a gas engine DA50 and was very surprise how it turn it so easily.
I got it from http://www.helipross.com and the spinner option from http://www.top-rc.net

My friends started my synergy with a 91 ys st and it started ok. Don't think I am going to sell my dynatron just yet though. Sounds a little rough in the gear box when starting a 90. It could have been the battery though.

let us heard your input
I'm thinking of getting one but want to know from first hand actual user/owner speaking up. Let shares your success and failure story and how long you have the starter and what you're using it on...

so let heard the truth...

I don't own one. A friend in our club bought one. My starter is a dynatron so I have used the high dollar one for sometime now and am used to it. I am not knocking the starter at all. It is just diffrent from what I was used to. I think the dynatron has alot more power but that is due to running at 22 volts. I will say for the money you can't go wrong and think it would be a good investment for size and power. I just don't think I will sell what I have to buy one. I feel by listening to it run and the power ratio that Align will soon have spare parts for it on the rc pages. But that is to be said for all things that are man made. I liked the look and grip. Just be sure to hold on to it because it twist my wrist pretty good when not expecting it to turn that hard.

Point - it is a good starter for the money all around. Just don't know how durable they will be starting a 90 over time. on a 50 I say go for it.

I got one and like it just for the size of it. Nice looking unit and starts my 90 just fine. I did notice if I hold it straight up and down it tends to have a ratcheting feeling when starting. If I tilt the starter just slightly its nice and smooth. I think because the end is a ball hex, it makes more contact at an angle vs straight up and down. It doesn't spin like my dynatron but for size and ease its just fine.

its not the inside of the oneway slipping, it is the outside of the bearing sliping in the wand part.are those bearings supposed to pressed in? they are loose.
