The align system is different. It does not use flats on the shaft. It has 2 screws that go through the shaft holder and then the shaft itself. Once the screws pass through the shaft, the holes on the other side of the shaft holder are threaded, so as you tighten the screws, the shaft holder tightens down on the shaft. That's why you have to drill the holes into the shaft. To do that precisely you would need a drill press. any chance you can thread a grub screw to this threaded hole from the outside of the shaft holder? if not, perhaps this threaded hole can be drill through and tap additional thread to use a grub screw? |

Update on Starter shaft I received a PM here on RR from Andy Yu from Assurance RC asking for my mailing address to so he could send me a new starter shaft. I had sent him an e-mail a while back on this so I was not expecting a PM on here but hey whatever works. This is all I want, for Align and all the other Hobby related Manufacturers and business to stand behind the products they produce and ditribute. I appreciate Andy and Assurance doing the right thing. I received the shaft this past Friday (09/25/09).Now I was told in another topic regarding starter shafts that if the shaft was not hardened I could Harden the shaft myself. Does anyone know if the Align shaft is Hardened or not?Hi Guys, I am a Jeweler by trade, and I noticed a long time ago that some wands are made of material that is very soft. So I started to experiment a little. I now take my wand and heat the tip with a torch until it glows red, I then quench it in cold water. this is called Anealing, and it tempers the metal to make it very hard. I'm not saying anyone should do this, all I'm saying is this works for me, and I am experienced in metal working. Just a side note if you heat metal to glow red then let it air cool, you will make it very soft, the opposite effect of quick cooling. Also remember that doing this will void your warantee on replacement shafts. |

Replace a 25 year old stater So guys besides the worn out starter shaft issue, how are these starters?
If I buy returning for repairs/replacement is not a option. Deepest darkest South Africa does not get good RC service, so I import. I see plank flyers!!! |
