No upgrade I "simply" wanted the ECU to be checked and the clutch to be revised (service from a hard landing). |

My turbine is on its way back to me also. By the time I get it back it will be about 5 weeks. As suspected the problem was software related. I was not charged for the upgrade as in an email I explained the situation and that I shouldn't be charged, and they agreed. |

well the turbine i sent back wont be back for another 3 weeks minimum..A friend sent his turbine ( my old hotcat turbine) over to germany to be converted over to Kero and to be changed so it can fly the 1/4 scale airwolf, so they changed the frames and added the second main gear...but when it came back in the new frame the old ones werent sent back, and it had a different shaft, he had to ask them to put the old shaft back in the box when it shipped back as it was a custom made shaft for the Raptor 90 quick uk head... Have those of you that have had that conversion ever got back the spare parts ?I would expect them to send back the old parts..All The Best |

You have to ask for anything Jetcat, even if they change parts the will not supply the defect parts unless you special ask for it, that what I did.The turbine was running perfectly from the previous owner but still they had to change the shaft and combustion camber because it was damaged, so I asked them to send all the defects parts with the Turbine.Ed |

EtanI can understand on crashed or damaged parts them being reluctant to return it, and if they did how, can one be sure it was actually your turbine parts, - I had old friends in the garage industry and if someone asked to see the old parts they would just find any from the same car but it may not be the acutal one they removed from your vehicle..What i am talking about here is 2 very good healthy frames, that could be used as spares for his other PHT3 which will go back in my hotcat..as it had all the markings etc where the servos went...It seems a bit sly to me to keep it after you have paid for it..All The Best |

Matth,You just need a little thrust in Jetcat but I don't after all there promisses, I will not advise any one anymore to go to Jetcat in Germany.
I have send an email to Uwe Kannapin in Germany to see if he will do some service on Jetcat Heli turbines. I had with him very good experience in the past when I used Jakadofsky turbines.Ed |

JetCat servicing I have been talking with different people about the servicing policy of JetCat Germany
It seems that if any part has been played with, adjusted, tightened, or altered, by the owner, when it goes in for a complete sevice those parts are replaced
Any damaged parts are also replaced
So if you change the rotation of the head, all the bits are replaced locking collers maingear drive gears,
I am supposing that they will only gaurantee their own work, the reason they want their turbines and mechanics returned to them for the smallest changes
I could not understand in ED's case, how, a turbine mainshaft could have been damaged when the turbine was running without any vibration,
The only conclusion was that when the rubber "O" ring in the starter bendix wears out the metal of the bendix grinds the end of the turbine shaft
A combustion chamber having to be replaced, I can understand as the turbine is number 0015 one of the first 3 imported into the UK, it certainly has lasted a long timee
As for the cost, I asked JetCat to do the same work on one of my PHT3's, as ED did, that was a belt upgrade to 9mm and a full service,as I posted before my bill was over £700.00 pounds, a lot more than ED's, so Ed you have come out of it better than me and you have a new combustion chamber

It seems that if any part has been played with, adjusted, tightened, or altered, by the owner, when it goes in for a complete sevice those parts are replaced
Any damaged parts are also replacedIt seems? is that factual or hearsay? so by me coming to you as an experienced turbine flyer and paying for bits to help me adjust setup of my turbine i in fact wasted my money as when it went in for a service judging by your comments jetcat ripped out all your work and replaced it,charged me for it, Sorry that sounds like jetcat are taking advtange.Services seem to be between 450.00 and 750.00, if you are doing a lot of flying that adds a lot of expense onto a years flying..EDIT::::: added commentsMy comments are not meant to start a bun fight, i just feel that anyone who chooses this make of turbine is tied into a contract for the life of their turbine, as Jetcat make it as difficult as they can for a person to do anything, to be fair anyone can change a bearing or tighten a belt to the right torq, it doesnt have to go back for a month or more just to do that,i feel it undermines those who want to help newbies, they really can't now, as their hands are tied. which i feel is ashame. it is like buying a car and being told to change the oil you have to pay for a serviceMattAll The Best |

I had a custom length and drilled shaft on my PHT3 when I sent it in. I also had several modified purple cross pieces installed including one with a large 6mm aluminum slab extension for my SK360 gyro to mount on. They removed all of it to service the engine and then reinstalled it just as it was. I never mentioned it but I would not want them to replace those parts and I would not expect them to. Now if something were damaged then that would be expected to be replaced. The point is that they send back an engine that is in new working order. Why would you want any old or damaged parts sent back with it? To verify they did the repairs? |

Damn!! I've been looking into turbine helicopters and the various manufacturers that offer turbine engines for helicopters for some time now. I may not be in the market very soon but one thing is for sure, after reading this post, I don't think I'll ever consider buying a JETCAT turbine. To those experiencing issues with their service, I'm sorry, and hope your issues are resolved shortly. However, thank you for expressing your experiences and possibly saving other members a similar headache.Best regards,

Nice post Sean, I have been thinking the exact same thing, No way will I ever buy a Jetcat.
If nothing else is good out there, then I can patiantly wait for another jet manufacture to step up and provide better and more honest care to their customers. To those experiencing issues with their service, I'm sorry, and hope your issues are resolved shortly. However, thank you for expressing your experiences and possibly saving other members a similar headache. Yup, thanks for sharing your experiances, Sucks when a manufacture treats you like crap, I also hope your issues get worked out.Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care! |

Keep this stuff in perspective, guys. JetCat is offering to upgrade all of thier PHT3-3's to the dual main gear and larger clutch for free. People are taking advantage of that and sending them in. And here we've got a few members of this forum who have had service problems and you write off the company as a whole? I do think they were unprepared for the number of upgrades they received. And I think their size in general has become large enough that they needed to expand the service department anyway. It sounds like they are addressing that by bringing in more technicians. Remember that there are hundreds (now at serial number 1400) PHT3's alone in use all over the world. Very few have had problems and until now the service at JetCat never took this long. JetCat has four different variants of the PHT3 alone (PHT3, PHT3 Pro, PHT3 Pro+, and PHT3L), the PHT3-3, the PHT4 and all of the two stage engines: SPH5, the SPT5H, the SPH5M. Lots and lots of helicopters are running all of these engines with flawless performance and of course you never hear a thing about that.nick |

Well said , Seattle Hello , and just to put the record in perspective , I've had my one PHT3 for three years , and a second one for two years , both are in NH90's weighing just over 30 pounds. I've had absolutely no problems at all with the turbines , and only one solenoid has failed , a part not made by them I assume , now that's a damn good record. On the one turbine I could not fit the kero start , an e-mail to Jet Cat got an immediate response to not only replace the combustion chamber which would enable the Kero start to be fitted , but also the bearings , AND AT NO CHARGE to me. Now , seeing that the second PHT3 could take the kero start , I decided to only send the one turbine in when the bearings fail , this hasn't happened yet , and because they are so willing to help me for no charge , I won't take advantage of there generosity.So. when it finally goes in for service , I will be happy to pay the price , and await my turn , for the quality is SUPERB GERMAN ENGINEERING.
Dave.WHAT GOES UP MUST SURELY COME DOWN. |
