What are you guys using for swash interaction? Is there a tool you recommend that works well for the N9? I've never dove into this area of my building and want to see the difference everyyone talks about. Thanks

That was cool.

As Chuckie says I use my 14MZ to remove the interaction.

There are three areas where all CCPM helis exhibit swash interaction, well maybe more but I'm only going to discuss three.

One is where you level the swash at mid or zero pitch and then also make sure the swash is level at full positive collective and full negative collective. You can either use a swash leveling tool or dial indicate the swash to make sure it's level. For my N9 I use the one Cajun sells and basically it lets you see how level the swash is over the full collective travel, you adjust individual servo travel at the end points to level the swash.

The one thing you need to realize is while this tool works great it’s only the first step, you will need to trim the heli for a stable hover and so the real swash position is adjusted to counter the torque of the main and tail blades and the Center Gravity of the heli. Then you do a series of full speed climb outs and adjust the level of the swash to counter act the affects of the motor at full power (running a gov helps) and the heli climbing though the air (drag of the canopy versus the boom). The problem is as you burn fuel the CG changes and so does the trim. Finally, most helis don't hover inverted with the same trim. Just get the trim close and learn to fly the heli.

The second type of interaction is where at full positive collective if you were to give full right aileron the swash will dip down (or up depending upon your heli) along the elevator direction. The third type of interaction can be seen when you start the collective at mid or zero pitch and hold back elevator, then you add collective and watch the elevator angle of the swash change. These interacts can also be seen in mechanical or non-CCPM helis. The problem comes from the servo design and using a round control wheels or arms. The servo wheel is a non-linear control mechanism and the farther away the control ball moves from the 90 degree point the less the rod travels. In CCPM helis at full positive collective if you were to give right aileron, one (aileron or pitch) servo arm would be traveling back closer to the 90 degree point and the other will be moving further away from the 90 degree point. Because the rods from these servos don’t move the same distance the swash dips and you have movement in the elevator control.

The second and third interactions require a special program feature in the transmitter to eliminate and as far as I know only Futaba 12/14 radios have it. Oh there is one other device that will automatically prevent any interaction of the swash, any flight control system (vbar, 360, etc) will not allow the swash to move in the wrong direction as the sensor is monitoring the heli position and the software will correct in real time any swash interaction.

Entityofme1 you assumed that bkervaski actually flies. His two N9's are only used for static displays!

I have used the one from Scott at cajun and it works great.

I use this tool
http://cajunhelicopters.com/pro1259686.html

to make sure the swash is 100% level at mid stick mechanically (eg. servos at 90, all three bellcrank to swash links 100% the same, then adjust lenth of bellcrank to servo links)

then use my 14mz pit to ail and pit to ele mixes to ensure 100% level at top and bottom.

Hey Joe, go ahead and get that swash leveler and buy a tach while you're at it, I need to borrow them.

I don't need a tach to figure your headspeed Bill. Your governor does a great job at holding it at a rock solid O.

Like I said before. If I buy a tach I will be the only one who gets to use it. You can fly away and I'll be watching the head speeds through my tach. Maybe if your nice I will let you play the hot cold game and guess your head speed. I'll never trully let you know what it is though. I do this out of what I like to call my "inherently justified contempt principles". All this time I've been coming to the field and no one has a tach for anyone to use. You guys have been flying how long? I can show you the path but I can't carry you through the journey...All I have to do now is show my mom how to use it.....
