Hi All,

I just finished my Logo 600 which is my first VBar. I'll have to wait until it quits raining to test fly her. It's pretty much standard fare. I've taken a few shots of the things that I did differently:

- My freshly painted canopy

- X-Era 4030-560 with 10S 4500 mah Outrage

Jive 80 HV with separate lead to power up ESC independently of the radio
-
- Standard wiring

- Bearings for tail idler with grounding (tail idler, boom, motor mount, and negative BEC are all grounded)

- Servo mounted on boom for balance (and you can see the Herc BEC)

I feel like a total newb because I'm nervous about flying her being that she's my first VBar. I'll let you know how it goes!

Keep 'em flying.

Hi LJS,
What Hercules BEC are you using with the 8717 servos?

Why so nervous LJ?

I mean the worst thing that could happen is that you might spool it up and tip it over. It might then explode into a million tiny little pieces throwing shrapnel in every direction blinding and crippling you, leaving you grotesquely disfigured and forcing you to pee and poo through a tube for the rest of your miserable existence.

What's the big deal?

Hi All,

Thanks helicraze. It took me a week to paint it!

Yep, Ron. I'm setting her up with 4.0. So far it's awesome.

Syl, I'm using the 5 Amp 6 Volt Western Robotics Herc BEC. I use them on all my electrics. They've been flawless.

Terrabit, you certainly have a way with words. "Thanks" for the words of encouragement...

BTW, the all up weight is 8 lbs 3.4 oz (3.725 kg). I'm pleased with that. It should have more than enough power to handle that weight.

Keep 'em flying.

The Jive BEC is absolutely top notch

My open carbon tail box only has one bearing
I'm assuming that you've modified the tail - looks really good/safe

You do know I'm just kidding, right?

Grats on the new bird! I suspect you'll be happily impressed once you get'ur all dialed up.

Ya know, I cannot figure out why many of my jokes fall so flatly here. I mean, what's not funny about poo? Throw me a freakin bone here people, work with me!!!

Hi Jim,

I've always set my electric helis up so that I can power up the radio, perform a radio check, and then power up the ESC. I like the safety of the radio check before putting power to the ESC. It's also handy for radio setup. Just a personal preference. This was the first time I had a BEC in the ESC that was usable so it was a tough decision, but I went with my standard. That way, all my helis are the same.

Hi Jafa,
Yeah, I made use of some Swift tail grip bearings that I hadn't used. I've heard of belt jumping problems and wanted to make sure it didn't happen to me. Thanks for the comments.

Would the BEC be suitable for the 8717 servos?
Just a thought!

They're fine with 8717's.
I would, however, be concerned about the bec's close proximity to the v-bar's gyro. That herc bec will likely be throwing a certain amount of emf...

I'd use the jive bec myself.

Regards,
Nathan

Hi Guys,

I have the Herc BEC in my Logo 500 similarly positioned next to my Spartan gyro and have had no problems. The one in my TRex is within an inch of my receiver, and again, no problems.

If all goes well, I should be giving it a test hop tomorrow to get the headspeed dialed in. It's supposed to be very windy here the next few days, so I'm not sure when I'll have a chance to do the autotrim flight and the real maiden.

Keep 'em flying.

if you feel you have everything pretty square fly it, do the autotrim later, its no big deal it will still fly very well without that being done.

Hi Shawn,

I was wondering about that. The head setup turned out perfect, so I'm not anticipating any trim or tracking adjustments necessary.

I'll let you know how it goes!

Hi All,

I just did the first test hop to get the headspeed dialed in and holy crap, this heli is responsive. I forgot to put in my normal expo into the transmitter, so that was why it was so touchy on cyclic. The second flight was much calmer. But the collective response is incredible.

I tried her at 70% governed (with throttle endpoints set to 83%) with the 12 tooth (I'm using the X-Era 4030-560), and the headspeed was 2100 rpm. Then I went to 75% governed on the second flight and the headspeed went up to 2166 rpm. I was going to bring it up to 2200 rpm, but it's already so responsive, that I don't see the point of going any higher.

I didn't do an autotrim flight, but it's already hovering hands off so I'm not sure what that will do for me.

It's started raining here now, so I'm not sure when I'll get to fly her for real. I'll keep you posted.

Keep 'em flying.

Cyclic response on vbar is not a product of headspeed. You should get comperable cyclic at 2000. Obviously, collective reponse will improve with higher headspeeds. But that too should be better even at lower headspeeds than a comperable flybarred setup.

All that being said, I've been running mine at right around 2150 also. Kinda eats up the batteries a bit faster but it sure is fun.

Glad you are enjoying it.

Hi All,

Well I just had a chance to wring her out, and I have to say, this Logo 600 VBar with X-Era 4030-560 is AWESOME! Not only is she the most powerful heli I have ever flown, she is also the most honest. Upright, inverted, backwards, and backwards inverted were all dead on. She did only what she was told. The vertical performance is beyond belief. I couldn't be happier.

Here's my flight data after my 3D flight:

Ambient: 50 F
ESC: 60 F
Motor: 80 F
Battery: 65 F
Flight duration: 4:40 minutes
Charge put back in: 2213 mah
That's a draw of 292 mWh/s (that's 10% more draw than the Scorpion in my Logo 500 carrying 30% more weight)

Just to compare, here's the draw from my other helis flying the same routine:
TRex 600 w X-Era 4025: 277 mWh/s (that's 4.5% more draw than the Scorpion in my Logo 500 carrying 21% more weight)
Logo 500 3D w Scorpion 4025: 265 mWh/s

I flew the same pattern with each of my helis. I was worried about the power draw penalty from putting the oversize X-Era 4030 in the Logo 600, but there doesn't appear to be one.

Comparing the X-Era 4025 to the X-Era 4030, the 4030 consumes 5.4% more power and carries 8.1% more weight. Oddly enough, the 4030 appears a bit more conservative in its power draw than the 4025, but could be due to me not flying it as hard since it was only my second flight with the heli. But clearly, there isn't much of a penalty for putting the larger motor in. It weighs only 1.5 ounces more, costs only $10 more, and doesn't use much more power.

Calculating out my max flight length using 80% rule I get: 7 min 30 sec of 3D flight. I don't expect it will actually be that long, but I think the Logo 600s flight time will beat my T600 nitro!

This is by far the best heli I have ever owned.

Keep 'em flying.

Are you comparing the 4025 in your trex to the 4030 in your logo 600 ?
That's way past apples and oranges.
The trex is fatter, has a more ineffecient drive setup and is flybarred (that's darn near a 20% difference in effeciency right there).
Never mind the fact that they're on different cell counts, the comparison is almost pointless.

Throw the 4025 in your logo 600, I bet it has much lower current draw than your trex with the 4025.
And the 4030 will have much more current draw in the flybarred rex than in the logo 600 v-bar.

Glad you like your logo
