For receivers, I'd recommend at least the AR6200 -- it's a full-range receiver whereas the AR6100 is not. An AR7000 with a satellite RX would be better, and give you better reception overall.

What transmitter are you going to use?

As for the rest of your question, "setup help please" -- that would kind of depend on what your experience level is with setting up helis and exactly what information you really are asking for. If you're experienced at setup, then you really need no outside info. If you're a newbie, you might need a ton of help. Everything from radio setup, to gyro setup, to heli setup in general. Where are you with regard to build and setup experience?

Since you're using the 9257, I'd recommend 5.5 volts out of the ESC so you won't need a step-down for the 9257 to keep from blowing it up.

Are you going to run it with two 3S packs in series (not a particularly good or popular move), a 5S pack, or a 6S pack? If a 5S pack, pick up a 15-tooth pinion for the motor. Otherwise what you need is in the box.

The 6200 rec has satellite receiver too just not the 7th channel like a AR7000 but you will not use that on the 500 anyway

I forgot about the satellite on the 6200. Good eye.

Still need to know "what" kind of set up info you're looking for.

Build it per the manual, you'll be good to go. If there are any pre-assembled parts, take 'em apart, make sure they're built as they should be, and use loctite where required. Never trust these things to be built correctly, or to have used loctite out of the box.

Set your pitch around 14+/- and cyclic at 10/10. you might need to do a program mix in your TX if capable to get that pitch.stock motor and esc is good enough.run 6s batteries with 14t pinion.and a good solid gyro like JR770,Spartan760 or the new futaba 520 with either JR3500 or 9254 tail servos.cyclic servos you can use stock align or like mines futaba 9650. there all good including Hi-tech 225mg.hope that will help in a sense of 3d set-ups.

dravengary,
He would need a 7 channel Rx if he was using a X9303 and wanted to run his gyro settings off the flight mode SW.

My first setup was

AR6200
HS5245MGs
GY401
S9650
Gyro setup on gear channel
Stock ESC set to run on 100%
Stock motor and 13T pinion
Belt with some cheap silicon spray

I've tried a bunch of the popular packs on this ship, I like the Thunder Power 2600 6S 25C packs

Latest setup on the same ship

AR6200 400+ flights no troubles
HS5245Mgs 400+ flights no troubles
GP750 very pleased with this small powerful gyro
S9257 very good servo for the GY401 and the GP570
Stock ESC 100% 400+ flights no troubles
Stock motor, started to squeal @ 325 flight I changed the bearings at 350 flights
I'm on my second belt

Crash- 5 volts will be fine. The main thing with the set up is dont use the governer mode. Otherwise you be chasing a tail wag. I am in the same ball park with the other guys posts on set up and using the 401 gyro currently and will be changing it out for the 520 gyro soon. The 401 holds ok but once in a while it kicks out. Has not caused a dirt knap yet. Its still a good set up.

520 setup
I just got the 520 gyro/9257 combo. It works great in norm mode, but when I flip it in stunt 1, the tail goes crazy. I am not real familiar with settings for it. I am using a DX7. I have it at 70% in norm mode, and 40% in stunt 1. Any help would be greatly .

My current set up on my t-rex 500cf is:
stock motor/esc
JR 770/3500 on the tail
Spektrum AR7000 receiver
JR3517MG servos on cyclics
Outrage 6 cell 3000mAh batteries

It's a complex, costly, glow powered anti-gravity machine!

Test flight was great.
No vib, no track ajustment, just 3 clicks on foward trim.
I used 6v with a step down for the tail servo.
This 500 is going to be fun
