I have just put a 520 on my Rex450 and am not understanding the gain I need to stop tail wag.

The gain is in the gear channel
In HH mode I need the ATV (gain) set as low as 22% any more and I get wag. (JR9303)
I also get a bit of bounce after a sharp rudder input or piro.

The gyro is in HH mode (red light on gyro and the servo does not return to center with the stick)

My understanding is that the gain should be about 75% and Rate around 30%

Any ideas?

Not if it's only a 6 channel Rx as most 450's are.

Is this the case?

3D?? No - just another input error!!!

I think you have your numbers backwards
The gain will be around 20-30%
The rate can be anywhere from 75 and up depending on your preference for piro rate

Try moving the ball in a hole.

I use one of mine on a T-Rex 250 with Futaba gear with gyro gain of 21% and it's rock solid.

How much cusshion do you have under the GYRO
How many tape layers did you use, and where is the gyro mounted?

Try Mounting it with a single 2 mm tape. See if that works.

Hope this helps

OK,

A slight delay in me trying the suggestions below due to the fact that I crashed and smashed the heli to bits . (Not anything to with the gyro btw)
Back in the air (all new bits - no mechanical issues)

So I moved the ball in as far as possible to the servo horn by drilling a new hole. (not so happy about this as I like to use a nut on the back of the arm, and now I can't because it is to close to the arm boss)

The mechanical linkage is set up in Rate mode @30% I get zero drift in hover.
There is no binding - smooth as silk.
Stationary piro's can be set up with D/R @>100% to be blurringly fast.
HH Gain set at 28-30% and it holds well in tail slides and does not blow out in tail first loops. ( I am not a good enough pilot to do much more than that)
ATV 100%
D/R 85%
Rudder Expo 5%
Gyro Mode 3D
Gyro Mode Fast

The 520 is a lot better in general flight than the 401 but
I still get a big bounce following stick left piro's/turns (heli nose right)
And, I still get wippy FFF piro rates (slow into the direction of travel)
Any more ideas - Please

Thanks
