I want a rock crawler and was looking at the Losi kit due out soon.
http://www.ckrccrawlers.com/shop/in...roducts_id=1529
My other choice is the Axial
http://www.ckrccrawlers.com/shop/in...products_id=298
I want a serious climber but will not go much higher in price than these models so top of the line items are out of my reach.
Got any adviced to share?
BTW will be selling a Kyosho Caliber 30 to fund the truck PM if interested.

I just got into rock crawling myself. I went to my first comp in central CA earlier this month in San Luis Obispo. It's pretty damn fun, esp for us technical heli types. It's more of a mental game than just running around a circle to see who gets there first.

I got the Axial ARTR, as you get the best bang for your buck. My LHS owner got into building custom tuber chassis, and gave me a prototype to test. It's a nice chassis that bolted right into the stock ARTR.

Since, I've added Integy driveshafts and shocks, and an STRC skid plate. I also did a 4-link suspension conversion, which is easy. Next will go in a Dig unit.

I've heard a lot about the Losi, and some folks are waiting for them. If I were you, get the Axial ARTR and upgrade as you see fit. Get a good servo like a Hitec 6945 or something. I used the Novak Rooster brushed power system, as do a lot of folks. The Tekin FXR is also popular, and allows 3S lipos. The Axial is pretty much the Align of Rock Crawlers. Everyone has parts and upgrades. Parts are cheap, compared to helis, also. It's a really great side hobby to do with younger kids and for really windy days.

The best website and forum for Rock Crawler stuff is
http://www.rccrawler.com

Good luck,
Erich

I like the Losi cuzz it has worm drive in the axles. I believe you don't need the braking action in the ESC with worm drive,,,can you confirm that?

That is a Super Class MOA (Motor on Axle). They are pricey, but VERY capable.

The Losi coming out is a worm drive and has a Dig unit stock. No one knows yet if it's going to be worth a damn, though. There are lots of Digs out there, and research will yeild the best ones. I'm going with the CKRC FT Dig since I've seen it in action at a comp, and is really the only one that will fit in my custom tuber chassis.

The RC4WD dig for the R2 tranny is nice, too, but pricey with the tranny.

All I've seen on the rocks is their Mini Rock Crawler, which I would like to get for my 4 1/2 year old to screw around with. It seems pretty tough, and comes with good stuff, such as a 2.4 radio.

I have the axial. My husband bought it for me for our one year anniversary. I put it together and the very next day we went to our first competition and beat him by one point. I am not sure what his crawler is because he has it all custom done up. I personally would really like to get a pimp cane.

Yup. I ordered an AX10 a few months ago but got an email back saying they were out of stock, so I canceled the order. Now I'm glad I waited.

I gotta have a Pimp Cane, and also a purple velvet hat, heavy gold chains, lime green bellbottoms and a mink overcoat to wear while I'm drivin' it.

I have a RCFWD rock rider, castle Sidewinder esc, Castle 10 amp bec, Hitec 7955 TG servo 55 turn Integy lathe motor, Pro line Chisel tires and a modified AX10. The AX10 beats the snot out of the rock rider. I have pics in my gallery of the rock rider. Tomorrow I will post pics of the Axial. It has an TCS crawlers edge tuber chassis, droop suspension, FXR esc, Castle 10 amp bec, Hitec 7955 TG servo, Integy 75 turn lathe motor, BTA steering, Losi comp claw tires and four link suspension.

I almost forgot, the rockrider has rear dig controlled by a Hitec 645 MG servo. Also it is connected to my Futaba 7C heli radio. Both are pwered by my 3s 2200 heli batteries for 2 plus hours on each one.

They ARE almost as much of a money pit as helicopters. I have first hand knowledge of that.
