I am a member of a car forum and I decided to read their rules today. I figure I've been a member for quite some time now, maybe I should read the rules....LOL. Anyways, I think there's some great rules and we should include them in our rules as well. If you agree let Mark know and maybe he will add them....
4. Private Sales - This is not ebay. If you are selling something, please make sure you list a price. Failure to do so will result in your item being remove! Please do not post links to E-Bay items. If you want to sell something, take the time and effort to create a complete For Sale post with a price.
And
11. New Members - In order to prevent spamming of the forum, new users will not have the ability to sell in the forums or use Private Messaging features. This restriction is lifted after 1 month of membership.
Or if you dont like it just ignore this post and I'll get the hint..

I might not be able to fly well, but I can crash with the best of them.

Not a bad idea. I see a lot of stuff for sale lately and the user has been a member for 24 hours. I smell a scam!

I agree 100% you see alot of new members trying to sell stuff, and if most are like me I tend to shy away from those out of habit.

I vote for the rule change

To answer your question I like the "price" thing, as I had a run in with a guy accused me of low balling when he didn't even have a price listed in his ad. Some people put "feelers" out to see if some one will bite ie. "I'm thinking about selling"

Also the E-bay link thing, If I want to buy off e-bay I will shop e-bay. I hate the links.

Rules only come into play if you violate them, for most people these rules will have no effect. It is only for a few idiots!!!

We don't need any more rules. You should be able to control yourselves and not buy from new members. If you can resist the urge, then it's your own fault

I don't think it would discourage scammers from selling. They could just open several names at once and as each one reachs its one month point, they could use each name to scam with.

It's not a perfect, end-all solution, but it's not a terrible idea either.

One problem is that the PM system has it's uses, and it's not just for classifieds.
I, for example, when I was new, I used the PM system to meet up with some pilots who could help me out.

On a side note (and somehow related to this discussion), since this is a helicopter forum 1st & foremost, I'd like to see members barred from posting in the Off-Topics until they've achieved Senior Heliman or Veteran status.

It's rather sickening when you see guys here with a 10:1 or even 20:1 Off topic to Relevant post ratio.

desulli's "new rule" idea sounds like a good one to me. How many votes are needed to talk Mark into programming it into the site?

All this would do would be to promote even more worthless posts in the non off topic posts.
There are already enough.

+1. These are great suggestions. They may not be so necessary for those of us who have been around a while but it could definetely help protect the newer members or those who don't know everything.

I think you should have to be a member for at least six months before you can sell something.

I like those "new" rules and see nothing wrong with them.
