Well kids, I just picked up a used R90 SE out of the classifieds. I started my heli career with and R30 and now I am back with another TT model.

So who can tell me what the hot set-up is for and R90? I have a YS91ST and SB-16 that will be going in it for now. I would like to eventually switch to the new OS HZ later this summer. Other than engine, I have an idea of what avionics I am going to use but nothing set for certain.

This will essentially be my "beater" practice machine but I still want it to fly good.

I'm looking forward to hearing what you guys have to say. Thanks in advance.

Just give me five dudes and two flashbangs...

Wow! an SE for a beater!
You either quite good or don't mind about expensive boom strikes

Top Avionics is the key to enjoy having it as a "beater" machine!

I picked up a used SE here as well after being out of the hobby for a few years (same motor and exhaust as yours). I find this machine to be a blast to fly.

Our flying styles may be different so I'll share what I've done to mine after a dozen or so gallons of fuel to increase reliability

-tail rotor hub was replaced due to all the reports of failures I read about (I used the Quick unit, fully assembled and locktited)

-my autorotation bearing started locking up (also replaced this with a Quick unit)

-do some research on tail rotor pins and make these mods

-find and install a brace between the tail boom struts. Make sure all screws securing struts are tight and loctited. This was a cause of minor tail vibration and some radio lockouts.

I failed to mention the first problem noticed with my machine. The center head block did not fit the main shaft as tight as it should. Again, this is a well documented issue with the Raptor 90. Steady the frame of your machine with one hand and try to rock the head. It will be evident if you have this issue.

To correct, I replaced with a G Force replacement. It has a center bolt as well as two addition bolts placed toward the outer section of head block that provide clamping force to eliminate problem.
