I used to be a big time rink rat when I was a kid. Speed skater-5 times a week. Had a blast.
I was thinking of getting back into it just to keep in a bit better shape seeing how my hockey days are behind me.

Anybody here still goof around with quads? (Cant stand inlines )
What are the newer speed skates like?
Any suggestions?

4 time speed skate champion, 3 time dance, held the speed skating record for 2 years. Ran a rink, was a dj at the rink. Skated 7 days a week for at least 4 hours a day. Why yes, I have done a little. Riddell boots, Chicago pro plates with jump bars. Went through more wheels than NASCAR. 30 years ago. Now, can still move, just crackle when I do

Oh, all on wood floors, now that was skating!!

I went to a Halloween party once with my roller skates on and no clothes on. I was supposed to be a pull toy.

We actually have one less than a mile down the road. A total of I think 3 in the metro area. None with wooden floors though. I think it could make a good come back if done right.

How'd you guys set the speed skating records? Was it fastest time for 10 laps or something?

This movie anything like it was? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0403455/

To think this was all before I was born!

I grew up on quads. Also played roller hockey in the late 70's had the Chicago trucks with the i think they were Hyde boots and a pair of douglas Snider boots on my hockey skates. I haven't put on a pair of skates in over 20 yrs.and i could put them on today and it would be like yesterday it's like riding a bike once you learn you never forget.

Learned on quads, now in lines. 70 yrs old and still can outskate nearly all the young ones. Lots of paved bike trails around here so I go nearly every day. Long Live Inlines.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?
