Through a good deal with another RR member, I've added a Hurricane 200 flybarless heli to my fleet. I'm in the process of installing the radio gear and hope to make my first test flights on Sunday.

The instruction book is not the best for some information, such as ball position from center on the servo arms. The cyclic links are not too bad, as you can just make them straight up and down. The rudder link position is of more interest. I've not yet searched this forum for recommendations, but I'm sure the information is here somewhere.

I don't know why, but I certainly enjoy the challenges presented by the "little" helis. Being able to hover them in my house as well as fly them in my backyard certainly contributes to that enjoyment.

No photos of the build in progress, but I will document the completed heli as well as get some photos of the first hovers.

It seems like a quality little heli.

Thank for for the link. A great source of information and very timely. This information will be put into good use today as I finish the setup and initialization of my gyro and finish my radio settings.

Well, I've missed something. The receiver will lock on to the DX7, but nothing happens with the gyro unit. No light, nothing. On the start up attempts, nothing beeps out of the motor either. The only thing that seems to be happening is the receiver is powering on.

I know I've missed something simple and silly. Time to find out what.

Throttle input from the ESC, is it plugged into throttle, or battery input???

OK, it's sort of working. The problem was that I had the servo plugs in to the gyro unit wrong. Flipped them 180 degrees and everything powered up. I was able to initialize the gyro, but now here;s the rub.

I did the initial setup with the servos plugged into the AR6100E receiver. All directions and stick movements were correct. All cyclic servos were set with "0" subtrim from the mid, "0" pitch position on the throttle stick. The rudder servo was set the same, i.e., "0" subtrim.

Now, with the gyro unit in the system, my throttle stick is giving me elevator control and what should be my elevator (right stick) is giving collective input.

Time to think this through!

Thank you, kind sir. I'm guessing it would be the elevator switch?

The documentation that comes with this unit is not the best, so I appreciate when someone such as yourself can share their experience.

It flies!!
First of all, my swash movement issue was a stupid mistake. I had the aileron and pitch servos reversed and plugged in wrong to the Gaui gyro unit. Once I identified that issue and corrected it, swash movement was fine.

Flying impressions? Lifting off into the first hover, it was clear that the recommended starting gain for pitch and roll axis at 25% were pretty much spot on. Yaw was the issue. I started out with 70% gain on my DX7 and ended up going all the way down to 30%. Hover is very stable with these settings.

I'm using 20% expo and 80% dual rate. I'm glad I am, for this heli is responsive. Hover is comfortable, yet it is so responsive as the sticks come off center. Response is crisp and accurate.

I don't anticipate any changes to the gyro settings. I do plan to fine tune the pitch/throttle curves.

Question, do I need to remove the gyro from the system to set pitch curves? Making changes on the DX7 do not appear to be changing anything on the heli.

Thanks to all for your help. I'm pleased with the outcome and glad I made the deal for this heli.

OK, pitch/throttle curves have been fine-tuned and essentially match the recommendations in the manual.

I put in four hovering flights this evening. Bottom line? I like this heli. I like the flybarless arrangement. Enough that I'm going to look into retrofitting flybarless setups on my larger helis.

Time for one last flight before bed!

Ha! Broke it already
14 flights into its life and I sort of backed it in. I overshot my landing point, pulled back cyclic to stop the forward motion, and ended up dragging the tail. Yes, I was horsing it. Surprisingly, the tail blades are fine. But I did put a little bend in the tail rotor shaft. There is no other apparent damage.

So off goes an order to HD and by Thursday I should be back in the air. The control response of this little heli is so crisp that I guess it can lead you into doing something you maybe should not do.

I've got to get some photos of this thing before I dork it. This little thing is fun!

I like this size heli too.

I'm a fan of belt drive tails. More durable.

I don't know how they do it, but my HD order arrived today. The tail rotor shaft was replaced and I put in two flights tonight. As suspected, there was no other damage other than the tail rotor shaft. The Gaui is back in fine flying form.

I'm not making any pitch adjustments, but think I'm going to add a little more expo and cut the dual rate back just a little too.
