I just started building my Frenzy. The instructions say that the clutch should be flush with the bottom of the clutch bell. I can't get mine even. The bottom of the clutch sticks out slightly, maybe 1mm. Is this normal?

I've loosened everthing and it still doesn't line up. If I take out the mount screws then I can get it to line up. It appears the holes are slightly off. I may have to elongate them with a file. Another option may be to use the black washer that comes with the engine to move the fan and clutch up.

Black Washer. I had to use it also to get the clutch and the bell to line up.I also flew it with out the washer for a couple tanks without any problems.

You should have installed the Thrust washer that came with your engine. Install that and it will line up just fine.

I have never used a thrust washer on a heli. I'm not using it on the Frenzy now. So the clutch sticks out ~1mm...the machine flies fine. Has anyone had an issue for not shimming?

I went back and put the washer in and everything lined up.

The T-Rex 600N uses the washer. It's in the instructions. I suggest the instructions for the Frenzy include it also.

Ok, so what do you gain? 1mm of clutch lining is virtually nothing. The extra one way bearing is about the same nothingness. I'm thinking this concern is similar to the E-clip. No issue at all. If my machine blows up, I'll let y'all know. Engineering experience sats don't worry though.

I actually had flown mine all weekend without the washer. It is fine as there is a lip on the bottom of the fan that appears to ride on the inner race of the engine bearing.

I took it apart and installed the washer and it does go into the clutch better but keep a look out for the fan. It is really close to touching the top. Im sure either way is fine as long as things are free and not binding.

EDIT: Spoke with Gregger at amain.

It was in fact designed to not use the washer hence the lip on the bottom of the fan assembly. This lip has the same purpose as the washer by resting on the inner race of the engine bearing.

I installed a tt53 engine in mine without the washer and it does stick down a hair and I mean a hair, it sticks down the thickness of the decal sheet that came with the kit.

I put my washer on and it now lines up. Haven't flown it yet. Whether it matters or not, the instructions say that it should line up, mine didn't, that's why I asked the question.

It's a good question. I just have been doing this hobby and engineering long enough to know when things are mechanically sound.

I was too lazy to put the washer back in so I elongated the holes in the lower bearing block so it fit perfectly. This bird flys like a dream. I need another one as backup.

Just discovered something after a nasty hot start. The clutch liner is rubber and not the typical clutch liner. Don't know that it's an issue, but worth noting. I'm checking to see if a Shuttle or Raptor liner will work. Will post when I get to it.

The Trex 600 clutch liner will work so will the Raptor liner. Cut to fit.

Raptor Clutch Liner a confirmed match
Just installed a Raptor liner. Thickness is good.
Now if I could just avoid those early season hot starts.

my clutch seems to have sprung. does the Raptor or Knight 50 clutch work. My clutch was grabbing while turning it over with the starter. I dropped the engine and and the clutch is spread more than when installed. I didn't have a hot start so I'm not sure why this happened. The OEM clutches are out of stock and I am in need of a replacement.

Thanks
Phil
