CP 30% or CP 30%
I accidently closed a topic and can't reopen it. I have a good idea what 30% Cool Power costs now and it seems the LHS is ripping us off. But someone said he thought we were speaking of Curtis Performance Wildcat 30%. Is there a major difference in blend. I like smoke and lots of it if only for the effect and moskito abatement that results. I know CY uses it, but anyone have problems with it on YS engines and high ambient temps around 100-115 degrees F ?Thanks.

Man, I can't believe what a little smoozing does for the price of fuel. My LHS will sell me CP 30% for $27.99/gal by the case. So, I guess I go with it.

The Wildcat 30%CY does smoke less and doesn't smell the same

I think that it is generally agreed that you're not on the wrong side with CoolPower30% in term of power... so I would stay on that side

Some will talk to you about bearing issues but I do consider that whatever the brand that you're choosing you'll have to replace bearings... this is just part of the maintenance schema...

I have a YS 91SR and a YS 50ST and have so much power with CP30%. I agree bearings to be replaced when and as needed. Just ordered a couple of cases of CP, but is CY really that much more power?

What makes power in the fuel is the amount of nitromethane and methanol... and as far as I can see... there's NO difference at that level.

Oil has just an effect on lubrification and cooling...

oil is just the lube and doesnt contribute to power levels , but every fuel mfg has their own secret stuff. after using CP for over 3 years decided to try some CY and it was a better blend , my engines love that stuff Urukay HPS3 KSE 700 HPS3

Stupid question. I'm new to nitro heli's ( been flying electric). Why 30%?.I understand the Oil Content thing but why not 15%. I picked up a smoking deal on a Vigor CS with a 91YS. All the guys who fly helicopters here fly 30% and when I asked why I din't really get a straight answer. Thanks

I have found that CY 30% doesnt have that "harsh" smell like cool power. Coolpower will burn your eyes, CY just smells like heaven.

All my helis smoke pretty darn good on the CY 30%. Lots of oil in that fuel.

15% runs great as long as you are in the right area (ie, sea level.) I have flown 15% for the last year and guys I fly with are pretty impressed what 15% can do in a properly tuned engine. But.....I fly @ sea level. I imagine if you lived at 5000+ ft, you may have a different opinion. Like JRjoe said, it's a little harder to tune than 30% with a bit less power.

Some people will say 15% is only good for hovering.....thats plain BS. I have seen one of the best flyers I know throw down some crazy 3D on my heli with 15.
T-Rex 450 SE V2 , T-Rex 600 NSP, Stryker F27 C....Yea, it's a plank.

Good call. Nitro is an oxygenator. At 5,000 feet you will need more nitro than at sea level because there is significantly less O2 at that altitude.

I used 15% for years. I do like 30% for the power and ease of tuning and have used Cool Power since flying helis. I think Ray Hostetler said in a magazine article that castor oil caused engine vibrations, which leads to gyro hunting. So I've use synthetic oil fuel only since.

CY exhaust is a bit nicer to the nose. It almost smells like the exhaust of a clothes dryer with those fabric softener sheets inside.
