Well the scorp 90 esc died after 9 flights this is sad for a $160.00.

I was coming in low and inverted and everything goes out, just like you throw a switch. I managed to get it up right so no damage. I then take it to the bench and go over it, once it checks out I plug it up and out comes the smoke.

So now I’m thinking Kontronik

What’s the difference with these two?

Kontronik Jazz 80-6-18 ESC
Kontronik Jive 80+LV Brushless ESC (Version 5)

I’m running a Logo 400 VBar with a Scorpion HK3026-1600KV which one would be best.

Thanks guys

Tony

Jive has better gov mode and proper BEC circuit you can use.
Also has plate to mount heatsink on so no mods needed.

FYI my buddy had a compatibility problem with his Jazz and Scorpion motor. His jazz would get overheated after 15s into the flight.

Never heard any problem with the V5 Jive so that's your choice then.

Jive v4 had issues with scorpion, that was fixed in v5

But even with v4 its just to turn the motor a notch by hand to get around the issue.

I had the same issue with the jazz scorpion combo -15second flight time thermalled even while hovering. It was a compatability issue which I have not seen with any other jazz - scorpion combo.

This is not the same thing MrMel is reffering too with the jive. I am sure the jive will be fine.

Fergus

The only thing I would have done differently is get the HV version. The HV is close enough to the same size and weight and it offers more flexibility - up to 12s. I'd venture to say it's probably a bit more robust too.

If you're spending $300, another $100 for the ability to move it to say an L700, if I so choose, is money well spent in my opinion. I have two now. And, they are completely interchangeable. There is nothing I can foresee wanting to do that I can't with them.

Hopefully, I am out of the ESC market for a while. I suppose time will tell.

Thanks for the al the help guys.

Terra

Logically you probably right realistically though it’s 25% more and damn spending $300.00 on the Jive took everything I had in me to force my self to do it.

With the economy the way it is it’s hard to justify spending more when less will work perfectly fine especially on a hobby. Now If I had read your post before I bought I probably would have done it just because I am easily persuaded in to spending money on heli’s.

In the end I really don’t plan on getting rid of or going HV on this heli, besides if I go HV on something might as well be a NEW one.

So I just tested the new Jive 80 out with two packs.

I have a few problems though,

This is on a Scorpion HK3026-1600KV-16 pinion
Idle up set 1 set to 80% flat.

I might need to bump this up some but not sure as I couldn’t tach it because the battery is dead on the tach.

It definitely had more power and everything ran warmer the usual. Not sure if this is normal, motor and battery were warmer but not hot you could hold/touch them. The tail server BSL251 was even warm, now this worries me a little because it never even heated up before and was always ambient temp.

It also seems to start twitching a little when hovering in the wind and dolphins some in FF with wind, it wasn’t doing this before.

Have you a step down on the tail servo? Jive BEC is 5.6volts.

Fergus,

Good call, never used one so nope I don't have one on there. So I need to get a step down to 4.8V, does this go between the Vbar and the servo?

So I would plug the SD into the Vbar tail port and the Servo into the SD?

I'm using the one from Western Robitics. I have it between the tail servo and vbar unit.
