MSNBC's Rachel Maddow suffers big audience loss
MSNBC show host Rachel Maddow has suffered some steep audience erosion in recent months, down more than 40 percent in viewership from her peak last fall during the election.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Maddow's audience has gone from a high of 1.9 million viewers in the fall to just over 1.1 million in March. That's a big drop.

Readers of this blog know I am just as troubled by Maddow's brand of ideologically driven partisan propaganda as I am by that of Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity on Fox. Maddow was at her worst last week, falsely minimizing the tea parties held across the country as "the fizzle in the drizzle" and mocking the participants.

You could hardly have a better example as to how an ideologue distorts an event or facts to fit her or his worldview -- the opposite of journalism.

Maddow was not much better than Hannity, whom I criticized here, for his rabble-rousing on behalf of the tea-bag protesters in Atlanta, whom he was supposed to be covering.

"I think Rachel is a rock star," Phil Griffin, the president of MSNBC, told the Times.

That's one of the problems with MSNBC: It's looking for "rock stars" instead of journalists or analysts to host its shows. If a rock star's CD sales dropped by 44 percent, believe me, the record company would be worried.

One difference between Maddow and Hannity that I see is the level of venom that is spewed from Maddow. Hannity is clearly right wing and always takes a right wing presentation to his program. Maddow has an angry, vindictive, hatefulness to herself. The people that listen to her have grown tired. She is in a downward spiral that will not correct itself. People get tired of the hate, hate, hate.

It seems that right wingers tend to be happier and try to make the best of it even in bad times. The left wingers can't be satisfied even if their man wins. Obama is encouraging his people to go after Bush people. This is a clear attempt to keep Bush in the news in order to keep his screw-ups off the front page. He released the memos in order to stir people up.

Punishing Bush people will give a small amount self gratification to people like Maddow but they won't be able to stop there. The leftist leaders grow more and more paranoid about the general public and continue to let the word seep out about different groups that may be "enemies of the state." We've all heard about the Ron Paul supporters and returning veterans that are "potential terrorists." One of the primary concerns of the white house is Rush Limbaugh. They haven't figured out how to shut him up yet. Control of the media is a big concern.

I am one of the "right wing extremists" that the DHS warned you about. So take my comments with a grain of salt.
Let her talk all she wants. It's good for our cause.
Thanks.

Same reason we have seen less of Lou and company. And more of the other side.

The party in power tends to not be able to defend as well as the party out of power can attack.

I think that is one of the big reasons for the popularity of Conservative talk radio. Most of the hosts are entertaining and engaging even if they may have a agenda. You may disagree with them but you still may enjoy listening to them.

Liberal talk shows on the other hand... I dont think many people would disagree that Al Franken is hilarious and one of the wittiest comedians around. But listening to his show on AA was like listening to a prison inmate sitting on death row talking about how evil the world was and how terrible we all are. Who the h#ll wants to listen to that.

+1 that.

Ratings are kinda worthless. Number one rated show: wrestling.

Nuf said IMO.

Probably shouldn't admit this, but i like the Maddow show sometimes. even the tea-bag one.
