The XDM is the updated version of the XD. Lightened/reshaped slide, different cocking serrations, match barrel, quicker reset on the trigger, changeable backstrap to fit different size hands and higher capacity (19 rounds in 9mm).
I have yet to play around with one, but the folks that have purchased one have said it is entirely a different pistol from the XD.
Some things are a bit similar to a 1911 such as the width and angle of the grip and a grip safety.
I am waiting for the XDM to come out in .45 ACP.

Why you say .45ACP?

Because it is too hard to carry a sledgehammer

Liberals are like a "Slinky", useless but entertaining when pushed down stairs....

I read in the paper this morning here in Houston, that Hand gun sales are thru the roof! Gun classes are sky rocketing as well. They also say, with hard times like we have currently, we will see more and more robberys.
good! just makes the world a safer place.

I have an easy 5000 rounds through my .45 XD and I love it. Seams like everyone I let shoot it ends up buying one. There is a guy the lives by me that mods them. Does a great job. Check him out...

I shot the XDM-40 and a Glock 23 in the 40 and before the side by side test I was sold on the XD. After shooting about 50 rounds in each gun with several different grain loads I knew I wanted the Glock. I was very suprised but the Glock just felt better in my hand.

I haven't yet fired an XD, but after 8 years and 1k+ rounds I'm still lovin' my G23. Never once misfired, handles great.

Those of you who prefer the XD, is it the grips? The balance? Accuracy?

I love the smaller handle on the .45. The Glock felt like a 2x4 in my hand. The 1911 style grips. The features that allow you to check for chambered round and check to see if its ready to fire all by touch. No light required. I also watched a Glock blow up. That was enough for me. The round not fully being supported bothered me allot since I shoot allot of heavy loads most being +P+ and the Glock wont do that without going boom instead of bang. As for accuracy, I think they both are fine as it all depends on ammo. I like to shoot lead since I pour my own bullets and the barrel on a Glock dosent like lead one bit.

I don't believe I've ever heard of that happening to a Glock. Can you be specific about what happened? Hot load?

It happens allot
A good friend is a detective with the local PD. I told him what you said, then sent him that pic. He's been using all three .40 cal Glock frames for all his 22 years on the force and he's never seen that happen. All due respect, but if that's happening a lot where you're at I've got to speculate that there's a lot o' guys using hot loads out that way.

Do manufacturers issue specs about max powder loads / bullet weights?

Yes but it could have been way worse. That pic isn't from his gun but it looked just like that. I got sprayed with powder since I was standing next to him. He got to dig some brass out of his hand and had one hell of a bruised hand for a few months. He has since sold all his Glocks and he was an avid Glock fan before all this. His was a .40SW if I remember correctly. Whole top of the gun literally flew 50 feet.

The reason I say it happens allot is because if you do a quick search on Google for "Glock blowing up" you will see lots of hits. This is why he sold his Glocks, he valued his fingers as well as my company while shooting. Like I say, it could have been a hot load since I have seen a bad factory load before but way too many people with the exact same failure lead me to believe there is a design flaw there. This is just one of the reasons I don't own a Glock. To each his own I guess.

Works for me. I'll search around and see what folks are saying.

EDIT -- I found a few hits but not many. It's definitely an uncommon event.
