1010c pop, crackle and smoke....again.....
While using my 1010c on a 3s 2200 it popped and smoked a little, but kept charging away....I was a little miffed so I stopped it to see what was happening.....It still read voltage, balance, etc...so I tried a 10s 3700, it popped as soon as I hooked up the deans and smoked again. I did not try to charge it for fear of burning something(house, neighborhood, etc) down.

This is the second 1010c that this has happened to, and Ive had a hyperion duo replaced as well, all in a period of 12 months. They are run on multiple expensive power sources, so that isnt an issue I believe, but they get used a lot.

Do I have bad luck with chargers, or is this the lifespan of a charger?
I have other cheap chargers that are years older, so im mystified.

At least they have both stood by the product and had it replaced in a timely manner.

Ive just sent in the RMA request to thunderpower, so well see how this goes.

I think you'll find TP less service friendly.

I'm leaning towards bad luck, the only other option if you are on grid power is the power supply. I know you said they are "expenive," but what exactly are you using?

I have an assortment of 120v to 12vdc ranging from radio shack to mastech, but this time I was using a deep cycle 12v battery that is fine. I load tested that, and its fine. Its only been used for rc for 6 months, very light use, and always maintained.

My service with tp was fine before, I hope it is this time as well. This is my only 10 cell charger, was never abused and looks brand new.

Its seems like bad luck, but that is a pretty high failure rate.

No way I can find fault in a 12V Pb source, I'd write it off to a bad string of luck as well. Or possibly Karma. Have you done something to offend the charger gods?

have you ever hooked your battery up backwards? that can damage the capacitor and it may not pop until later.

Allowing the output wires of the charger to short to the input (ie Pb battery terminals) can damage a charger - even when not charging. With Deans style connectors this is quite easy to do (cost me return postage to Germany for my Schulze charger, plus a cheap part and labor).

Yeah, I understand this could have happened previous, and possibly had preexisting damage.(just for the sake of argument, but I baby my equipment)
The 1010c had been charging a good 10-15 minutes with myself working on a project 10 feet away when the incident occurred. The conditions had not changed.
