last week i repaired my helicommand, the fault was shake the heli tempestuously.I changed the gyro sensor, everything is ok now.

But i find a woeful truth:They use 3 cheap sensor enc-03 only cost 5 dollar per one.

Look at the interior pic:

Makes you wonder where the cost comes from R&D I assume .... same reason the break-out board with the servo connectors on it costs $100+ if you try to buy it alone!

Interesting to see inside it though! Brave man to replace one of the gyro elements too!

Wonder how much cheaper it would be without the useless optics for position hold. Huh....

@dawnsound

Welcome to your first post on RR.

Good courage. Seems like you also have the right equipment for the job
Shame.. they did not even use a proper MEMS sensor !!

George:

Thank you for your encouragement.

Actually Ii think the infrared stabilizater like copilot or Ap2000 do more good job than helicommand on high altitude. The cheap sensor HC use bring too much temperature excursion. So i call it "toy" after i saw the enc-03 cheap GYRO.

I hope these pic helpful to you.

The cost has really nothing to do with hardware or the IC's used in its construction. Take the Optics out or leave it in, really doesn't matter in price. Most those boards are pretty cheap when compared to the purchase price of the final constructed unit.

Were the cost comes from is in the software development, both software in the unit(takes the information received from the gryos ect and transforms it to useful information for course correction), and software used on a computer to calibrate.

This is something we are experiencing now at TRIAX|AERIAL

To those that say it's over priced, I would disagree.

For 99% of the community, it's more convenient and cost effective to just buy a ready to go unit that fart around for days and days sourcing parts and electronics, then programming, etc.

That's like saying the Photoship One mounts should only cost 100 bucks because that's the price of the parts. Ridiculous assumption that doesn't hold water.

This is just another case of consumers being cheap and not realizing production costs and R & D time and effort.

A gyro so cheap and "drifty" works so well on the HC, only because the horizontal hold function is not fully integrating the two gyro's signals, but has dampening to bring it back to neutral. Sort of a Hiller Ratio.

I think for the money the HC is a great bang for the buck. I just flew my joker with HC rigid and its nice that it won't ever roll over. I wouldn't ever fly AP without one.

It's because the development were expensive and the calibration of gyros is very expensive.

PLus...you know...that's the price everyone else is charging too so...

Can this 'dirty' 'cheap' gyro be upgraded?
Will soldering on a higher spec gyros improve the unit further?

UHC - PORTUGAL - I once had the same feeling. But have you seen the stuff the Chinese engineers are putting out nowadays? They are well ahead, we just don't know about it...
