LiPo Robustness...
A week ago I stupidly flew the same Align 6S 2600mAh pack twice by mistake in my TRex 500.

In the first of the two flights (gentle aerobatics/mild 3D) I would have pretty much consumed the recommended 80% of the packs capacity (I time my flights and as such can be reasonably confident about this figure). When I embarked on the second flight I flew for about two minutes before noticing that the head speed was starting to decay, so landed immediately.

My first thoughts were that there was a problem with the speed controller or motor, but I soon realised what I'd done!

The pack hadn't puffed and wasn't any warmer than usual. Once I got home I checked the individual cell voltages and they were all still reasonably well balanced, with each cell just over 3.1 volts. I decided to balance charge the pack at 1 Amp with careful monitoring to see how it would cope, the pack took 2535mAh...

I've since flow the pack twice and it appears to be working just as effectively as it did before I abused it. I imagine that the pack will probably deteriorate more quickly than usual, only time will tell.

Has anyone else had a similar experience? If so, what was the longer term outcome of your pack?

I'm still pleasantly surprised by the packs robustness, you can't really ask for much more from such a reasonably priced pack.

I think most of us have done that once or twice in our time, I know I have. I have learned over the past year that heat is the biggest killer of LiPos. By running a pack in 1 long run and over-discharging it until you really notice it slowing will make the pack very warm and probably cause at least a small amount of lasting damage. But since you ran it twice, allowing it to cool between flights, you didn't have bad heat build-up but rather just a low voltage situation.

All in all I would bet the pack is fine.

That's all good to hear!

I had another flight on the pack last night, it worked perfectly. In fact I'd say that this particular pack is one of the strongest of my collection.

At the completion of charging my LiPos, I put a small rubberband on them to signify a "Charged Pack".

Then, just remove the rubberband from the pack when you install it to go fly. Now, it will be easy to know which LiPos are charged and which ones have been used.

I have run down my cheap lipo's down to 3.0V, they recharged just fine and were good for next 100 or so flights.ಠ_ಠ HBK2 built with inexpensive parts! ٩๏̯͡๏)۶ Gaui425
