I have use the CC Phoenix 80 on helicopters of the same size (not Trex) with a 6s LiPo and that ESC works great. You do have to disable the internal BEC by removing the red wire and wire in and external BEC like the CC BEC. It works great once you get everything wired up correctly.

If you don’t already have an ESC I would highly recommend the CC HV85 as it will work with all voltages and you don’t have to remove the red wire. Someday you will want to upgrade to 8s or 10s and that way you won’t have to purchase a new ESC.

You have several choices that I have used.

1. On the receiver connector you take a toothpick and push down on the exposed internal part of the connector. If you do it right the red wire will pull out of the connector and you can tape it back.

2. An alternate method that I like better is to take a short extension and cut a section out of the red wire. Put that wire between the ESC and receiver and ESC. That way you don’t have to put the pin back in every time you want to use the Castle Link computer interface, just plug it into the ESC. Then you hook up the CC BEC according to the diagram.

3. If you use a Dimension Engineering BEC they have built-in circuit so you don’t have to cut any wires and also isolates ESC noise from the receiver. I have one of these and it’s really a slick setup. http://www.dimensionengineering.com/SportBEC.htm
