Hi..
I updated my Spartan gyro to verison 2. With the new version 2 update, it was not needed to bind the spektrum TX with the rudder stick to one side.
Yesterday it cost me a pair of brand new Rotortech blades 710 on my Trex700.
After 2 min of flying, the gyro lost its heading hold. Found out, every 5th start up, the gyro whont align and the blue light flashes..

Just a warning to those of you that are using Spartan gyro - There is a risk..

Im gonna rebind again with the rudder stick full left again..

couple of things could possibly do this.

http://www.spartan-rc.com/resources...c=24&category=6

if you have a flash link it will then show you the true gain if you want to check by doing the above. can you reply back with what the gain value is in the software.

cheers

Hi..
My true gain is 29%. The gyro works exellent and can hold constant rate during advanced set maneuvers. But however from time to time i have discovered it looses heading hold and the blue light flashes.. It was never unstable before i updated to version 2..

when you say the LED flashes can you describe the flash pattern?

i don't think this is related to V2, just coincidence. to put it simply the LED will flash based on rudder/gain signal the gyro sees. it's looking like you maybe have a broken wire perhaps or your rudder is not longer centering correctly.

cheers

I get to flashes, just like when you move the rudder stick a litle. I never had this problem before i did this update. I will try and rebind my spektrum with the rudder stick to one side and see what happens.

I have two Spartans on V2 with 12-15 flights total. Absolutely no problems at all.

Has anyone had an issue with V2 after power up? On both of my gyros, sometimes the rudder will go go full over, and if you switch over to rate mode, it will swing full over the other way. It did it alot before I re-bound with rudder stick centered, but still has done it a couple times since rebinding.

I just updated to V2 from 1.0.8. Do I need to recalabrate it or can I just copy my old settings to the new firmware? I bench tested and all seems fine.

I am using a usb flash link.

I just loaded my old settings. Before I sent it to the gyro I selected the proper servo as after the update it just showed generic servo. Chuck

In addition,I also noticed when giving inputs either to left or right, the LED flashes 2 times repeatedly. This is normal?

Yes, the LED flashes when input is received. I noticed this even before the upgrade.

Test flew my setup today & everything looks good. Flew it 3 times.

Side note. How can I increase my travel limits. I currently have 125 & 99. I would like to get it above 100. I am using a 9257 servo on a t450. I use the 8 star horn & the cirlce.

I have my end points set at 120 both directions. This gives a nice piroette rate. The end point controls the piro rate. You adjust the travel limits in the gyro menu. The nice thing is you can set both end points. Chuck

I believe this same thing may have just happened to me, although I have to do some more testing...I have about 17 flights on my new 700, and all 5 of my spartans have the latest software. At the very end of my last flight the other day, in the middle of some 3d practice I felt something funny with the tail....I brought the heli in as I was very low on fuel anyway, and my tail began a slow steady drift as it does when its out of heading hold. ( I have it setup this way, so that I know if I am accidentally not in HH). I flew two quick circuits, and sure enough the heli was not in HH....Unfortunately, right after I landed, I shut the heli off and left the field as I was in a hurry....and not thinking that I should have at least checked the gyro on the ground. When I got home I went through my linkage as that was my initial thought on what the problem was, either that or the mounting of the gyro....Both checked out, then I remembered reading the above post and it got me thinking....Now I am not saying that there is quite a problem yet as I still have yet to fly again, but it was very strange having the heli suddenly switch out of HH. I sent a pm to Angelos asking him if he has heard of this, and am still awaiting his reply....So far my other Spartans seem to be working just fine including one on another 700...Hopefully in the next couple days I can get out and do some trouble shooting.....
