Guys

This is the first battery fire i've ever had. Second flight of the day on my brand new ASI Evolution Gasser ( 4th flight in it's life ). I brought it down for a touch and go, throttled back up then poof! White smoke everywhere. I've attached the pictures below. Anyone have any idea what would cause this ? I've emailed Fromeco so we'll see what they say. Makes me a little shy of this battery product in the future.

Wow,

Glad you were able to save your bird from any damage! I'm very interested to hear what Fromeco's response is. I'm using Zippy batteries on my Trex500, but I'm pretty sure the base lipo cells all come from the same factories in the far east.

Ian.

Did you have the pack pluged into the deans and the charge jack on the regulator at the same time? Just a thought.

Hmmm, that doesn't look too good. Doesn't look like much if any damage to the helicopter at least. I would like to hear what Fromeco says too.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Dampening issue?
Or maybe charging issue...?

Were the Lipo elements balanced?

if you put the charge jack under the lipo it could have shorted the batt out from rubbing just a thought

First, Fromeco's customer service is outstanding!

I spoke to both Mike and Curt at Fromeco, walking over all possible causes for the incident. It looks like it may have been an internal battery short of somekind. They offered to send me another battery of the same type, or different type. I'm going to try a Li-ion this time around.

YES, Told yah! Fromeco is great. I dont blame yah for using li-ions. I use Fromeco's 2600 li-ions batterys. I prefer them over lipo for rx power source. Just a little more stable. They work great. I can fly 7 flights on a 50 doing 3D the whole time.

Glad to hear it is resolved. Good luck.

It's just making me a little nervous of LiPo batteries right now. I've been flying NiCd and NiMH for over 20 years. I've used LiPo in electric jets but this is the first I've used them in gasser helis. My previous gassers have all been NiMH.
